Hello TipTip, I just joined this site because I am selling my desktop today and looking to buy the Asus G73, but now that I see a new one is coming out would it be worth it to wait for it to be released? Do you know any information on when the G73JW comes out? Any help would be appreciated, thank you :)

im ready to order now. these new findings keep me on my heels and the finger off the trigger.

i know the saying if you wait your gonna keep waiting because new stuff comes out blah blah blah

    BUT

    USB 3.0
    WIDI 1080p
    upgraded CPU
NVIDIA GPU (not sure if upgrade) but its a change

this time i actually do think its worth the wait. just the question is HOW LONG? why cant someone from asus let us know? its so frustrating i might just get a sager on spite

Well guys, I really think waiting is worth it. Altough I admire ATI and their 5870 card, still their drivers and drivers support is really on the negative side. I believe that the nvidea 460m in the begining won't be on par with the 5870 but after a couple of monthes it will surpass it and the famous GSOD won't be there with the Nvidea. So I believe it is worth it.

Additionally, ASUS will be releasing G73JW 3D versions too for people who like 3D too along with the great shape of the G73.

As for the time, based on the info I have they will be announced aroung end of August and preorders will start as then. According to xoticpc:

I hope this info really helps. Unless you really need a laptop now, wait for the new version. Good Luck.

This is good news. I am assuming that if they are offering 3D that it will be with an Nvidia card.

This model is still the same G73JH-A1 but with the 740QM. Still with the ATI 5870, no other change then the slightly upgraded CPU. ETA is the 1st week of September.

This might ever so slightly kick the price of the A1 and A2 models down as even the slight upgrade of the CPU is still an upgrade.

Ha! Yeah I was speaking to the mysterious "other Justin" today as well. :p

I am either going to wait for xoticpc to get the new B1 or perhaps even old out for the JW, perhaps in the hopes that the newness of the coming model will slightly lower the price of the JH line.

short term replacements? I think whoever wrote that quote typed that wrong or maybe I'm mis-understanding. It sounds as if asus is willing to replace the a1's we already have with the B1 but I'm sure thats not what you mean.

nope - not what I meant... this is natural product evolution. The A1 & A2 have been discontinued. The B1 is the next model in the G73JH series coming out, we should begin to see ASUS shipping these in the US beginning next week. Was supposed to be this week, but they slipped the schedule...

    Thanks!

    G73JH-A1 =$1549
    G73JH-B1 =$1749 (133MHZ CPU UPGRADE)

G73JW =$1645 (133MHZ CPU UPGRADE, USB3.0, 120HZ SCREEN, WIRELESS HDMI, 460 M 1.5GB VRAM, 1333MHZ RAM AS STANDARD, BETTER INTERNAL COOLING TO PREVENT GSOD)

what does G73jh-B1 have? a measly 133mhz cpu upgrade??
for which, it costs $200 more than the g73jh-A1

g73JW with 460m may be slower, big if, but the reason its more costly than g73jh-a1 is because g73jw has many new features like 120hz screen, usb 3.0, WIDI (wireless HD streaming with 0 latency), 1333mhz Ram standard(as compared to 1066 in g73JH), newer internal circuity to prevent GSOD's

then why is g73jh-B1 so much more expensive than the g73jh-A1 model or the upcoming g73JW model?

I have to agree, perhaps for different reasons, though. I think that the B line and the JW line are so new, and the JW is not even out yet, that the prices are going to be insanely jacked up for the next two months. My feeling is if you have to have your lapy right this second, you'll just have to pay the price of being among the first to get it. However, when all the smoke clears after the hungry neophyte hordes have plunked down their hard-earned moula, and people start to realize that the entire G73 line, regardless of the letters and numbers that come after it, is built on the same basic chassis and technology as the original ones were NINE MONTHS AGO, the price will drop down a lot, because it won't be long before the next gen of notebook processors and GPU's are released. Asus is basically recycling the very same laptop to make it seem new, but it is actually almost a year old. In computer and tech terms, that is like a supermodel very close to her thirties.
