Have you tried the light bulb button (first button upper left of the keyboard)? ;)

It should cycle through 3 "modes" and controls the LED under the screen, the keyboard backlights, and lights on the 3 buttons themselves, although for keyboard lights it only turns off (to turn it back on you have to use the key combination).

How exactly do u update the bios? I got mine 3months ago from courts, somehow my model can clock at 1000MHZ Core, 2000MHZ Shader, 3500MHZ memory without going unstable. Other G73SW models only can go up to around 800mhz. Im just 14 and my parents would not be happy to see me taking the pc apart to see if the led is inside.

there is no led light below the blue plastic, but there is still a connector for the led. however, i have tried to install the led today but it will not turn on. probably something to do with bios.

We can possibly modify the bios by adding some come from the Jw and jh's bios and make the LED bar work when we install a led.

I know this is an extremely old thread, but I found something interesting about this topic that I would like to share.
I have a G73SW-BST6, and I recently ordered a light bar from a G73JH hoping I could get it to work in my laptop. When I opened up my laptop I wanted to see if it would work without reassembling the whole thing so I wouldn't risk having to take it apart again if there was a detail missing or something. I kept what I need to run the system plugged in with the laptop still open and I used an external keyboard to be able to use it. When I turned it on it didn't work at first, but later when windows was started and I was on my desktop I tried removing the light bar cable from the motherboard and plugging it back in. When I plugged it back in the light bar turned on for a split second and then turned off. I was able to recreate this, so I don't think it was just out of chance. Almost every time I unplugged it and plugged it back in the light bar turned on shortly.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I have confirmed that the socket that the light bar cable goes into is connected to something, and the G73SW has working hardware that allows the light bar to turn on. With that said, it must be a bios or software issue and it isn't a hardware limitation.
This thread is so old lol, I just thought I would share what I found with the internet.

I guess they just programmed the firmware to the off state for it rather than changing the design.

I have just figured it out. The light bar doesn't turn on when you install it on the G73SW; however, the bar IS receiving power from the motherboard. If you ground the red wire in the light bar cable to something metal (I used my optical drive), it turns on. [IMG]
