Seems like everyone on this forum talks about the G73jh BST-7 from Best Buy.

They also have another model, The ASUS G73jh HST-7.

For that price I don't think its really worth it. You got yours as a replacement right?

looks like the hst is only available in canada, and the bst in the us.
that's why the majority of the discussion is on the bst, though i wonder why the canadian model gets the 2nd hdd (still 5400rpm) and 2gb ram. though i'm not sure those differences are worth the extra $386.

The ram is like 25$ on Newegg and a 500gb hard drive is 75$ so I'm not seeing the reason for a 400$ increase at all.

No offense but I think buying from Best Buy is a complete rip off since they slash your warranty in half and remove accidental.

Edit: And the screen is downgraded and 5400 RPM crappy hard drives.

    Buy somewhere else, people. :p

If you could live with 500GB/6GB of ram, the JW-XR1 is 1449 USD/CAN (since we're on par 1 for 1 with the US) and you'd get a 1080p screen, USB 3.0, 7200 RPM HD and better cooling.

They might slash warranty in half, but they sell you theirs for $200, which performs much better than original - no need to ship it, just drop off, and you can easily demand replacement. Good luck doing that with Asus support :p

To be fair, they also drop the price. But still, BB is not a good place to shop.

Yup, so they can turn around and "fix" it by reinstalling windows. BB techs aren't generally any good - if they can fix computers WELL, they're not working at BB. Even getting a replacement unit (a FAIR replacement unit) can be a hassle, depending on the store manager. Some stores will rip you off, giving you a "comparable" unit, rather than an equal value one.

I bought at BB because I got for cheap, even after all my upgrades it's still cheaper than the retail price. You can easily replace if you got a lemon in that 14 days and I'm impatient. Also convenience and I don't trust my expensive laptop in the hands of couriers like UPS and Fed-EX, I've seen how they handle their packages and frankly I would not trust an expensive laptop with them. That's just me though. But yeah the warranty blows and Geek Squad sucks. My G73 has been rock solid though so w00t.

You still have to ship it to the repair center, the people behind the counter at best buy are not the people that work on the laptops. Good thing about best buy is you don't have to send in your battery/charger unlike asus who seems to like to loose peoples chargers. Also I have never had a hard time getting a replacement and I have done it multiple times. If your laptop dies in 2 years what kind of laptop is Asus going to give you? My gateway 6860fx died 2+ years after I purchased it and best buy gave me $1350 to pick out a new laptop.

Good luck on getting it replace at Best Buy in less you buy there $300.00 usd warranty.
And at some stores they will not take it back under the 14 day return . They state that it is ASUS that is to warranty the unit. And if they take it in they will keep it for two weeks and give it back and then tell you to send it in to ASUS even though they have a contract to repair the units with ASUS.
I know this as we have been working at getting many G73's fixed where we are and it is a mess. So you are taking a chance as not all BB stores will do what they say and will do all they can to not help.
Quite a few here have gone to the option of going to the Court to get there money back or a new unit . And they are winning as of the latest .
So I do warn everyone to take care when dealing with Best buy!
Not all the stores do this , but there are enough that do, that one needs to take care.
