Hi, I have a small issue.

Whenever I first start up my computer and a Youtube video my web browser, Firefox, freezes with the "Not Responding" issue for 5-10 seconds. After that everything works fine and the video is even buffered, but I've asked other individuals and no one else seems to have this issue.

It isn't that big of an issue, but now it's just getting annoying. I'm no expert compared to the people on this thread (btw props to all of you for this great forum) :) , but I'm thinking the issue is with the hard drive...

I'm not sure if I have the same issue where my games are choppy, jumpy, or freezing every minute. I was thinking of updating my hard drive, the ST9500420AS, but I'm not sure how to use the files I downloaded. lol :(

I have the same issue with with the Atheros WiFi AR9285 files. Not sure how I'm supposed to use the files to update my hardware.

    Hey Ex Nihilo,

There could be a few different things you could do to narrow down the suspects.

First and foremost, YouTube is flash-based, so try updating your Flash version. Secondly, I know a new Firefox (6) was just released. You could give that a shot. Tertiary, you could try driver updates for your GPU from ASUS' website.

What are the type of files you downloaded for your hard drive and wifi? Usually there will be a readme.txt file showing you how to use them, or a setup.exe. Or, link us to the download location and we could help :)

firefox is a pain in the ...the only reason i use it it's because it doesnt have an export to IE function and i'm too lazy to do it manually. Also it has one of the best popup blockers ever. But RAM and stability, security wise, i hate it

Whatever dude. FF and Chrome use the same amount of ram. And both Chrome and FF have been hacked by Pwn2Own contestants. They are both secure for the average user unless you are a world class hacker.

As for stability, I've had FF opened for 7 days straight with no shutdowns and the program runs rock solid. Never had a problem with FF3, FF4, FF5, FF6 and now FF7. Stop destroying your computer and making it unstable maybe?

And btw, the same ad blocker FF was known for is available on Chrome as well... Between Chrome, FF and Opera, no difference really.

And if you are really worried about security, you use Opera. No one is trying to hack something as obscure as Opera. Opera isn't even on the list of software to hack in the Pwn2Own contest which includes Safari, IE, FF and Chrome. Because no one cares about Opera. Some of the hackers use Opera for that reason...

Hi, my Flash Player seems up to date.

I'm using Firefox 6 and my GPU drivers are 11.8. I believe these are the most recent.

I grabbed the driver update files off of links on Chastity's driver reference page:
G73/74/53 Series Driver and Application Reference

I just noticed Chastity has some sort of directions for the hard drive under the link. Is there something more to it than putting it on a flash drive and running the .bat? For instance, is it similar to updating the BIOs for my computer? What's a bootable flash drive?

This is a more direct link to the WiFi driver download:
Drivers for Atheros AR9285 and Windows 7

The files consist of: a link to a web page, two security catalogs, two .sys files, and two .txt files. I tried reading the txt files, but honestly I don't think they're instructions.

Does this freeze happen with other browsers like Chrome and Opera?

I think first you need to figure out if this is a hardware or a software problem. Do some testing and figure that out first. If this only occurs with FF, then there is something going on with your FF install. If it happens with all of them, then it would be hardware, possibly a driver issue.

It's not a HDD issue, don't flash your HDD, leave it alone.

As for Atheros, you can download the installer direct from Atheros. http://www.atheros.cz/

Hi, so I finally got to see ads on youtube. lol

    Seems other browsers don't freeze.

I forgot youtube had ads since Firefox seems to block them. Either that or it's my add-on NoScript or Adblock Plus.

NoScript and Adblock Plus shouldn't be the problem, or else it would freeze every video I watch, since every video has an ad right?

    Thanks for the advice. :)

Guys... grab FFox 7.0b1 ... very stable and fixes a bunch of crap that broke in 4.0. Worth the time to do so. :)

    Hello and congratulations! :)

I've taken the suggestion and upgraded to Firefox 7.0b1.

I'm not sure if it fixed my problem, but it doesn't seem to freeze once I restart and open a youtube video. I'll check again after another lengthy unplugged and unpowered session.

    Thanks again everyone :)

Actually I have another question. Sorry for so many >.<

I'm monitoring what I believe is my CPU at bottom left area of the HWiNFO64 program. It seems to spike from 900~ (green) to what I believe is 1300~ (yellow). This occurs once in a while and I'm not sure if it's a good thing. Is there anything wrong?
