WOW, am i happy i can post this.
So i decided to update my bios after having some overheating issues with my G73JH. I was on 209 and upgraded to 211. I download the bios, run the flash process, erase step went to 100%, then flash process went up to 99% and everything just froze...i though at that point, uhh ohhh!!! After 30 minutes of the computer not responding, i decide to call Asus. Well that was almost murder. The guy on the phone basically tell me i'm screwed, if the bios update fail, not only is my warranty voided but i will have to spend big buck to have it fixed. I think he was having a bad day because he wasn't very helpful and was scaring the out of me. What he suggested was to let the process run for as long as i could. He then told me that he was 99.9% sure my bios was corrupted and even if i told him not to, he opened an RMA.
After 2 hours, nothing, computer is still frozen, it's not responding but the fans are turning like crazy. At this point, adrenaline was rushing and stress was goign up like crazy. In a desperate move, i try to press ctrl+alt+del and then BOOOOOOM....i didnt have time to press the del key and the computer unfroze and the flash process resumes and completed successfully.
At that point,i was so releaved, so the flash utility prompts me to shut down computer, so thats what i did. After the computer shut down, and now it didnt want to tun back on!!!! Now the stress came back, i was certain i had just up my computer. Even the A/C light wasn't on...pressing power did nothing...the computer didnt want to budge. I then took out all the USBs, took out the battery and when i put the battery back, the A/C light came back on and when i pressed power, the laptop turned on again.
OMG!!! i was so releaved...besides physical damage to the computer, a bios update flash fail is i would say the worst thing that can happen to a laptop or any computer...
I just though i would write this, in case one day, it happens to one of you
    I am now diamonds!!!!
    LOL

P.S. Never again am i going to use windows easy flash!!! bootable USB FTW

That was so experience! I used winflash once then I read that it's suicide to do bios update through winflash. So that might really happen. Never again.

    That's B.S.

He'll tell the next caller to try updating the BIOS. That, and restoring the OS, are the standard canned response for any issue.

I sent mine in bricked from a BIOS update attempt and it was fixed no questions asked.

I paid a lot for the machine, it's under warranty, and all they need to know is that the machine doesn't boot anymore...how they fix it is up to them :)

Well funny enough marks, the reason why i upgraded bios is because ive had some high cpu idle temps, so i called asus and the agent told me to update the bios. Then when i told that to the second agent when i called back with the bios update fail, he told me that its at my own risk. I said to him that nowhere was i told its my problem if i brick it, he even told me it say it on the website when you download the bios file, but it didnt...anyways, im happy i got out of this one safely

This is why I do not use Winflash, there has been to many fails using this software.
People use and it works fine, but every now and then it will trash your system.

I use the update system in my Bios , I have never had a fail with that on any system.

    Haha you got lucky.

When I tried to flash to 211 my G73jh bricked and wouldn't turn on.

Luckily Best Buy replaced it and gave me the newer G73jh-HST7.

Yes and most do, but there are many white papers written on this and in most company's it is not to be used.
You would have to go and read about this, but it has issues and you will not know if it works on not on your system in till you get a fail on bios install.

yeah, for those saying they use winflash without any issues, well i could of said that also before yesturdays incident as i have upgraded the bios twice previously...but just like they say, theres a first time for everything. Good thing i escaped the brick, just watch out guys, do it the safe way with a bootable UBS

Hmm could you give us more information about the tech or customer service agent telling you that ASUS WOULD NOT cover the warranty?

This sounds crazy to me because they (ASUS) provides all the software???

When i called because of the frozen bios update, he basically told me that i should wait as long as i possibly could because if the bios update fails and my laptop is bricked, my warranty would be voided thus repairs being on my tab. I said he was nuts because the tech i spoke to before him suggested me to upgrade to latest bios. He told me that upgrading to newer bios is always a logical step but it is done at the customers risk. I told him i never got a warning about that on the website or by the tech agent so that if i bricked my laptop i would sue Asus unless they had it writtent someplace clearely like when downloading drivers.

I don't know why the tech at customer service telling you that the update would void your warranty. When i emailed asus once when i was having a few problems a month after buying my G73h i was told to update the bios to the latest version. I hate all the mixed signals from different techs is not very helpful at all.

If you talk to the tech line they will tell you that if you update your bios and it fails it is not covered by the warranty.
And you are right, they do not post anywhere that is in the open to warn you about this. That is why if you have a failure and you call tech most just tell them that the computer locked up and does not work. When you send it in to be repaired they do not seem to look for much on what happened.
Like one of my G73's , it was sent in and I got a whole new computer back. And it was not the same model that was sent in. I got back one of the later models.
On my first one I sent in they replaced everything in the case. When I got it back it had the faster Harddrive and a few other things that the model that I sent in did not have.
So when or if you have this done just call and send it in.
My issues where not the bios though, and when I got the units back I had to upgrade the bios as they did not do that at the tech center. Even though they where supposed to do this. So if you get one back be sure and check to make sure you have the newer bios.

I happen to know for a fact that a failed BIOS update is covered by your warranty. If you ever get an Asus tech telling you that it does void your warranty, politely get his name or employee ID, and ask for a Supervisor. Inform them what he said so they can correct his misinformation.

The BIOS and the flashing tool are both provided by Asus and expected for customer usage, and covered by their warranty.

In fact, even Gary Key assured that he will vouch for RMA service if you should brick your machine doing the beta vBIOS upgrade.

How would I go about getting them to honor the warranty then? Because I did ask for a "supervisor" and that supervisor said the same exact thing the tech did... "flashing a BIOS is considered servicing the laptop and voids your warranty"

Here is my thread, any info or help would be greatly appreciated.
