    Hello guys,

So, as I was writing a paper in MS Word today, my G73JH locked up for the first time ever. I rebooted, started writing again, and it locked up again, but this time it gave me a BSOD that said MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION at the top. It locked up after the next restart as well, but no BSOD this time.

Note that during these lockups, I had the computer on my lap which I have only done maybe once before. It's been back on my table for the 2 hours since, and it hasn't locked up yet.

My laptop is only 2 months old, and I haven't installed anything other than a few games through steam, Adobe CS5, and MS Office. Any clue why this might happen? Could it be because it was on my lap and I was blocking some sort of vent? Thanks in advance for the help, you guys have been nothing but helpful since I got this thing for Christmas.

    The G73JH BST7.

It just locked up for the first time since taking it off my lap and putting it on a table. It ran for around 3.5 hours total before crashing again. I got a Best Buy protection plan with it, should I just bring it to them?

A full crash dump would be much more helpful, but that indicates some hardware failure.

How would one go about getting a full crash dump? It is really odd that it would be a hardware failure, considering the computer is only 2 months old and has barely been used.

Man...I'm seriously freaking out here, b/c this is the laptop I use for school right now and I need it for all of my classes. If this is definitely a hardware issue, how would I make sure of that, and should I go exchange it for a new one at Best Buy? Thanks again for all of the help guys.

Also if anyone feels like helping me through Skype, feel free to message me. My skype name is u-volt.

Look in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder...any .DMP file(s) there? If so, there should be a little more information about the crash available in there. If not, you can configure Windows to save the dump files by going to Computer/Properties/Advanced System settings/Advanced tab/Startup and recovery settings - settings button

To view the crash dumps without development tools you can use a third-party application like BlueScreenView, or post the .DMP file(s) so we can look at them.

i think it is the same answer for you too in the thread i have started about gsoding and lockup

so you need to find what is making your system to BSOD
start with atheros since there are a lot of people complaining

OK, so I had 3 files in the Minidump folder, but they were all from early January. I think they were from before I found this forum and updated the vBios and all of that good stuff. The errors were all for SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and not the MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION I'm getting now.

    Any other suggestions?
