Hey everybody, have a question I wanted to bounce off of you all and see if anyone has seen something similar or has any ideas.
I just picked up a new G73JH-B1, slapped in an SSD, and did a fresh install of Win7 ultimate, x64. Very very happy with the system performance and just have one issue that's nagging me. My laptop is at home at the moment, so bear with me on some of the version info. I'll update this hopefully tonight with vbios, bios, etc.
I have read through quite a few of the posts here (great information btw) and have made the following changes to the g73:
1. Installed these items off of the driver disk included with the laptop:
INF(R) Update Driver
IMSM
ATI VGA
ATK Package
Keyboard Filter
Touchpad (Since removed)
LAN Driver
Bluetooth Utility
Wireless LAN Driver
Audio
Camera
Intel(R) Turbo Boost Technology Monitor (and Driver)
Multi-Card Reader
Creative (Since removed, this one was an oops!)
2. Ran JJB's SSD Tweaks and changed the values to 95%
3. Installed Catalyst 10.9
For some reason, when I run a 3d game and stream a video from a local network share, after 20-30 minutes, the system completely freezes with the exception of audio. The video continues to "play" and i've let it run for upwards of 10 minutes with no interruption of sound (the game I was playing disconnected, as well as ventrilo, so I couldn't test those). I've had this happen four or five times now in the last few days and have been able rule a handful of things out.
I've used Media Player Classic ( Media Player Classic - Home Cinema - Video Player) as well as the default Windows Media Player that ships with Windows 7. Both freeze. Having ventrilo running/not running has also had no effect.
This only seems to happen when I have a game playing as well as video. I have only had this happen so far when playing Lord of the Rings Online (but it's also the only game I've played for more than an hour with a video playing.. I'll try to test this weekend with another game to see if it's lotro specific). I've also tested with DirectX 10 and 11 and both freeze.
I've been able to play video for 3-4 hours straight without any issue as long as I don't have a game up. Initially I thought this was an issue with a 2nd monitor connected via HDMI, but last night to test I had lotro running on the laptop alone and a video playing in "always on top" mode.
I've also varied the type of movie (divx, mkv, mp4) but have always streamed it from a network share. Will attempt to copy locally and see if that has an impact. Outside of that I've had usb keyboard, mouse, headset, hdmi audio, and have had the issue both with and without.
This Creative X-Fi MB thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...ative-x-fi-mb-your-g73-realtek-hd-2-48-a.html) looked interesting and I thought I might try it, as well as verifying my vbios and bios are at the latest versions. Any other ideas?
Thanks!

ATI 10.9? Is that a mobile catalyst 10.9? I thought its not released yet.

If you installed the tweeked 10.9's they should work fine.. I would check for the latest vbios since it may not have been updated before roll out.

go back to ati 10.8 and everything will go smothhhh

I have used 10.8 10.9 and 10.9a on this laptop and they all have worked just fine.
Update the vBios to Chastitys version HERE and then report back. The thread for a how to update is here With the only change to run UPDATEOD.bat instead of the original one from Gary since Chastities has Overdrive enabled. -
Excellent, thanks for the help! I unfortunately was out of town this weekend and didn't have a chance to play with my new toy at all
Will run these updates tonight and test.

Thanks IM0001! Ran for 3 hours tonight without any issues, think the vbios update resolved it. Much appreciated
