..Cuz someone was surprised this thread hasnt been created, I'll go ahead and make one.
Anyhoo, this site says that G53 will come out in August: Asus ROG G53 3D Gaming Laptop? | Specs Review | Pinoytutorial Techtorial
August works for me, cuz that would be around the launch of SC2. I wouldn't mind waiting for it.
-
That was me!
Good job..lol
I'll make the sacrifice and be an early adopter -
If its released with a fermi.... ill be in. 15'' with dual hdd ftw.
-
It will be nice if they use a chipset with RAID support

Good thread, but this
Asus ROG G53 3D Gaming Laptop? | Specs Review | Pinoytutorial Techtorial
was pathetic. Was it written by a 12 yr old? Nope, that would actually be an insult to the latter.
Here are some snippets!
"A 3D gaming laptop is one that uses three-dimensional graphics which is often found in computer or internet-based games."
"Judging from what I’ve heard it’s also good for graphics and high-resolution data storage. But when it comes to other functions, it’s just average."
This is not a review. Its more unprofessional than a blog, and it lacks any detail or objective criticism whatsoever. -
Other than the misinformation, this laptop sounds quite interesting, except for the 3D. -
-
I hope to get this baby should be great and much cheaper than the G73.

I strongly suspect the article was written by overenthusiastic Filipinos whose knowledge of English vocabularly is limited. I know how it is. Half of my family is like that.

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
The average Filipino is actually pretty fluent in English, if one half of my family is any indication. It's just that they tend to get excited over new things without really understanding them. Of course, any non-techy person is pretty much like that. They just went out and wrote an ill-informed article is all.

You jumping on this laptop Forge?
It looks like it's gonna be a pretty big upgrade over our G60/G51 laptops?
And whatever happened to G52 for the code name, they skipped right over it like a red headed step child! -
I think I may change my G51 for G53. Fermi GPU will be a nice upgrade, not even mentioning the CPU.
And well... after all the cooling will be a 2 fan design, which hopefully should solve the hot G51 problem.
Now I'm waiting for info about switchable graphics and better audio (which was awful in the G51), hope it'll be at least like in the G73.
At the moment for me it's HP ENVY 17 vs ASUS G53. -
The filipino site was hilarious. I just had to post it, that's all. Also, someone else had originally posted that link in the other g53 thread, which is where I found it.
G53 going to have i5 + switchable, right?? -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
This time around, I think I have enough knowledge to tinker with it if it's not to my liking. I wonder how the bottom panel is going to work. -
which vid card hopefully gtx 460m though i dont know the specs
-
-
One thing that im wondering though is if bestbuy will get a version of it.... i would honestly prefer a 1600x900 screen on 15'', but not sure if i want to go 1920x1080, its not about the money, its more about maintaining a similar aspect ratio with my desktop, but i never seen asus release 1600x900 on their 15'', it either goes 1080p or 720p
-
Due to the popularity of the G series models at BB I'm sure they will sell some model of it.
I'm not a huge fan of 1080p screens on a 15" laptop either but it will be interesting to see what specs the BB version has. -
Pencil me in, though I'm still waiting for the full specs to commit. Hopefully they can price it under $1500 with a 1080p screen, Fermi GPU, and Blu Ray. I could care less about the 3d and Wireless HD streaming capabilities.
-
what VGA does the G53 have?
-
oh snap! that's right, BB would probably carry this
woohoo B&M shopping!

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
I'm staying away from Worst Buy this time around and going with the awesome Ken of GenTech.
Personally, the resolution of the screen wouldn't matter to me. It wouldn't be a deal-breaker for 720p, but I would like at least 1600x900 like Ikas or Abula. I have a TV to run my standardized 1280x1024 benchmarks on.
Good lord, I'm going to become a benchmark junkie again. HALP!
(By the way IKAS, if your name pronounced Eye-Kay-Aaye-Ess, EYE-Kihs, ICK-is, Ick-AS, or something else?) -
-
You are both wrong it's... Never mind
Say it like you want.lol
It's a conglomerate of my stupid foreign name mixed up.
@Forge don't worry buddy I'll be right there with you benching...and kicking yo a$$.
Sorry to say but I was not born in good old US of A ,English is my second language so I sometimes maul my spelling.
I know, I know no excuses.
Yup more than likely I'm buying from KEN too( he's the best, really!) I tortured him enough if the past with all my stupid questions and requests so he deserves it.
I'm hoping for a screen with no 3D because I know I'm never going to use it(stupid glasses you have to wear) doesn't matter if it's 1080p as long as it's good.
My wish is for a 1600x900 screen, I think it's the best for a 15" laptop.
If WorstBuy( like Forge likes to call it) does carry this model(which more than likely will) I just hope they don't sell a lame version with a weaker GPU(350 GTS) everything else I would be able to mod/add myself if I want.
And one last thing GO CELTIC's! -

You can join in on the fun too.

But I can't wait to see the final specs on this bad boy. -

What i7 CPU would you prefer?
620M?
920XM?
i5? -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
I'd like to get a quad core, so maybe a 720qm, though I'd like a 820qm if the pricing isn't ridiculous.
-
And yes, I agree with you about WorstBuy. I dont like how they watered down the G73. I'm hoping that G53 will be awesomer when it's out. -
I probably would love to get i7-620m / i5-540m and deal with less heat and more battery life, but thats just me.... while the i7 720qm is a great processor, i dont have much apps that i use on my laptop that will benefit much on it, my desktop does most of my video encoding... so a good dual core should be fine for my needs. -
Well it's still up to debate on wether dual core or quad core is better for gaming.
On one side you have a much faster dual core (620M)that can easily play every game and then you have a slower (just in clock speeds)quad that is better for RTS's and such.
I haven't had a i7 CPU yet but from going from past experience I have had better results using a "old" generation dual core(T9900) than a "old" generation quad(QX9300) on almost the same exact specced laptop( different laptop same GFX card).
I think a 620M should be more than enough when it comes to gaming but then I hear a voice in the back of my head screaming get the quad stupid!
I guess you can say I'm a little undecided on my CPU of choice.
I would love to see a comparison between a 620M and a 820QM when it comes to actual games.
Then again I might say screw it and get a 920/940XM that is if it's actually doable without melting your laptop into a pile of scrap metal and plastic.
It's that stupid voice again! -
-
The 620M is about $50-$100 cheaper than a 720QM, about $200 than a 820QM and about $$600-$700 cheaper than a 920XM.
This is based from laptop resellers that sell these CPU's on laptops and just guesses.
But I have seen great deals on Ebay and AMAZON for cheap ES CPU's so it's sort of a moot point. -
I would prefer a dual core since I don't think the situational performance increase is worth spending for at the moment. Not to mention the dual cores will give you more battery life and do give the manufacturer the option of putting in graphics switching. My ideal CPU would be the i5-540m, though hopefully the i5-580m is available when this beast releases. I think the i5 series provides the best bang for your buck at the moment.
-
I was thinking the same, dual core gives you the best of both worlds good performance and battery life.
I don't think you'll see much a performance hit when gaming since most games are more GPU dependent than CPU dependent. -
No offense but... you're buying a fermi equipped gaming laptop, I really don't think good battery life is near the top of their goals list. More than likely they'll stick an i7-740 (the refreshed arrandale line) in it, since those should be out soon.
-
No offense taken... but I'm talking about balance and it might surprise us and come with Optimus.... You never know.
-
Yup another buzzword. Asus 15 inch 3d Optimus Gaming Laptop?
-
Difficult choice. Wait or jump on other model?....
-
The delay is entirely NVIDIA's fault.
If this thing were equipped with a 5850 we would be seeing them in stores now. -
A 5850 would have a great choice, too bas ASUS is moving away from ATI cards.
-
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Hence why the review is... not a good review.
-
Why move away from ATI? The 5870 gave them the huge hit with the G73 after all..
