Ha I did this last night too. ZERO issues with the new one. Its what the first G73-bb should have been. I only hope I can upgrade to a 460 later.

I use Macrium Reflect Free to back up my stuff though. No dvd's and I wired it over to my NAS. wee.

    Only bummer, 5400RPM drive.

The JW and the JH use different motherboards with slightly different layouts so theres no chance in upgrading since there would also be no bios support for the 460m.. The 5870 is a great card though so you guys are set..

Does the new g73jh-bst7 come with the 211 bios and the 93v Vbios... If not are you not still pretty much set to get the GSOD?

Im sure it comes with 211 but as for the Vbios you will have to discover that on your own... You can dump your own bios to find out ..

For the moment i would not worry about any of that , just install the games you want to play and see if there are any issues.. You can flash the Vbios anytime..

So what I don't understand then is why some people would have to flash Vbios but not others.. Is a defect in the card itself that is only subject to some but not others?

After a few hours of GTAIV I haven't had any crashing of any kind. And I would send this back in a heartbeat if it did.

get the asus warranty. last time i bought something from fry's w warranty its only with them and they did not do replacements w/ manufacturers. i could be dead wrong though you never know you would want to make sure with them first that if anything happens that they will talk it over w/ asus and not just BB themselves.

asus themselves offer 1 year warranty for their product but i would buy @ least 2 years of warranty w/ asus and come here and save loads of money :]

I just sent in a G73 JH from Best Buy to Asus to be repaired, It only took them one day to do the repair and have it sent back to me. With shipping time it took 4 days. Not bad.

My G73 works fine now and it looks like they put in a new motherboard and keyboard by what I read.

I have been able to run benchmarks for 12 hours with no over heating of the video card nor have I had any crashes with games.
Before I was having my computer shut down about every 20 minutes and the keyboard lag was bad. I could not type anything with out re typing all that I tried to type. So for me sending the computer in has been great as they did fix it to where it runs fine now.
Just a thought , I had no Issues with Asus getting the computer repaired, but taking it back to Best Buy in my area was a joke, they would not honer anything that was in print and just kept telling me that I had to take it to asus to be fixed. Asus said that they had a contract with Best Buy to fix the computer , and they also said that they have had other users having the same issue with Best Buy.
So if you buy one there be careful and if you do not buy there insurance for the computer you will not get any service. At least I did not and a few others here at the Fort had the same issues that I did.
So take care. Other than that the Laptop is awesome and is running great.
I can play anything I want and it does not lag down.
I have not found a game that I have to lower any of the spec's down to get it to run like I wanted. So it is a great machine.
And like I said above Asus does do what they said they will do and they will get it fixed. I hope any who have an issue has the same happen to them if they have to send it in to Asus.

Not as nice a deal now that BB has jacked the price to $1399.

I'd stick with a new JW at one of the good online shops to get the full warranty and personal service. The price difference once tax is figured in is not that significant.

    Cheers,
