Hello!
So I have an old Asus G74SX 17.3 inch laptop with i7 2320QM @ 2.0 Ghz and a GTX 560M with 2x 500GB HDD's and 8GB RAM. It's beginning to slow down, and I'm wondering if I can/should upgrade anything to at least partially revitalise this PC?
I've never upgraded anything before, but one time has to be the first I guess? The PC is not under warranty.
Also does anyone know where I can get a replacement battery?
Thanks

Battery you should get in the official Asus store or your reseller should also be able to order it for you.
What I would change is the HDD, I would switch to a 256 - 512 GB SSD (size depending on your needs). Very nice are the Samsung 850 Evo in terms of performance/money. -

I agree with the SSD upgraded. It will make the computer feel brand new again, 16GB RAM could be beneficial too depending on your use. But neither will help with gaming performance if that is what you are after. For that you need a better GPU, but unfortunately the G74 do not support upgrading it.

Oh, okay. I just bought a new laptop, so I was thinking about using this as a secondary PC, perhaps buy a monitor and a keyboard and use as a desktop.
Anything else you would recommend?

The SSD should make it snappy again, just make sure the heatsinks are clean.

Good or bad switch in terms of price? -

Which is why laptops are interesting as each person has different requirements making blanket statements about what is best pointless

I agree! But thanks for the advice though -
