Hi all,
First off I apologize for the outdated post and hope that this is the right place to ask. I have an Asus G50v with an Nvidia 9700m GT card in it. For the past year or so I have been having overheating issues with my computer while gaming; specifically with games such as League of Legends on average settings. So nothing toooo demanding... I have cleaned the computer multiple times and reset the heat sinks as well. I even have the bottom completely off of the laptop, and place it on a makeshift stand and then use a fan to circulate air underneath it. This helped, and yet I still recieve random shutdowns from overheating.
After looking over countless posts and guides, I decided to try undervolting the CPUs and GPU. Undervolting the CPUs worked like a charm and I have had perfect stability with an average temp of 65C during active use. Comparable to about 77C that was I was seeing before the undervolting. Since then I haven't had an overheating shutdown, but my GPU is still running very hot at about 95C during mild gaming and idling at about 83C.
Because of this I am attempting to undervolt the GPU as well, and this is where I have run into problems. I have read a number of guides on the topic, but always run into issues with not being able to extract my vbios info when using GPU-Z or other things of this nature. Finally though, I found the guide on overclocking the 9700m gt, and from this guide I have managed to extract a vbios from my boards system bios using mmTool. I'm sure that I have the right one according to the guide, but when I try to edit it with Nibitor, I receive a message that it can't find the clock speeds and then won't load any data for clock speeds or voltages. I have tried multiple versions of Nibitor, and have tried both the rom and uncompressed versions of extracting the vbios.
I'm hoping that someone knows how I can get the extracted vbios to work with Nibitor. I do not know much at all about programming and have no way of building a custom bios from the hex chart in Nibitor.
I'm on an Asus G50v as mentioned with Vista 64-bit and currently running bios version 2.13 from Asus. I'm not looking to change my clockspeeds. Just the voltages down from 1.05 to .95. Many other threads claim stability down to about .90, so I'm hoping this will be a happy medium that drops my temps a bit.

EDIT: Just found out what was happening. With MMTool 3.19, the "save as" option for extracting the vbios wasn't working. Saving over the original image worked and allowed me to edit values. The flash worked and everything is running smoothly at the moment with the card idling at 65C. Fingers crossed that it continues to work.

When you "reset" the heatsinks did you use new thermal interface material? I had a G51VX and noticed that I dropped down in temp when I removed the heatsinks, cleaned them with nail polish remover, and then used a rice size drop of AS5, it helped temps a lot, at the same time when I had the heatsinks off I also slightly bent the arms that hold down the GPU up so it put just a little more preasure on the GPU. It worked great, of course it was the GTX 260M but it should be pretty similar.

That's weird, my sister's G50V idles at 46-51C for 9700M GT and 36C for the CPU (Duo core @ 2.66GHz), not sure the temp in games though as I only get to touch that notebook when I help her to clean it and repaste.
Edit: Is your room like really hot? Ambient temp here is around 24C.
