If you use a converter in the headphone jack, it works fine. I used it on my friend's 5.1 theatre to watch a movie, and worked great.

it's a standard S/PDIF port, so does 2ch PCM, Dolby Digital and DTS.

The HDMI port can do 8ch LPCM

Only two channel's for optical output? What a waste of technology to use Toslink for two channels. It is software limitation or hardware? And if it's software limitation is there a patch for it?

oqix: you aren't getting it I guess

TOSLINK has ALWAYS been STEREO PCM ONLY.

To get multichannel output, it needs to be compressed, like a mp3, to fit the bandwidth of SPDIF. This is what Dolby Digital Live / DTS Connect does.

HDMI allows for up to 8-channel Lossless PCM
