Yiddo has written the definitive guide here
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...m/605765-g73-53-jh-jw-overclocking-guide.html
Ps. if you are 90 Celcius see this http://forum.notebookreview.com/8224826-post2.html -
Funny how I dont listen to my own advice I was over 90oC the majority of the time with my one
Oh the irony!
Your current settings look about right to me although your 1 and 2 core settings are nice and high so if you dont see any BSOD then with some additional cooling or testing with compound application you should be able to get the 4 cores upto 3.2ghz or multiplier 24 with some care being taken as you increase the power input. As all 4 cores rarely push 100% as a stress test will when fired up if you set yourself a limit of say 90-95oC under a stress test you know that it should sit below 90oC under general or intensive usage. A good test I find is to run the W7 Experience test as it will run all 8 threads upto around 80-90% during its CPU test but it will not go on a mad rage like something like Prime95, 3DMark is also good. -
Gonna think about new cooling pad.. but i think zalman NC3000 is pretty good for that.. or should i get NZXT or even SF-19? What do you think?
PS about throttlestop.exe - do i have to launch it every time i restart windows? -
Thank you, Josea

If you want to make a difference you want something like the SF-19 but the noise is not really something you want with the stealthy quiet of the G series. It will knock your temps down by removing the maintenance panel but really only effecting the GPU as the location of the CPU does not allow the SF-19 to make a big difference.
Your cooling can be improved by making sure that the laptop is elevated, that you make sure the room it is operating in has a good ambient temperature and most importantly correct application of thermal compound as thin as possible making full conduction to the heatsink, also making sure the fan/heatsink is clean of dust and debris.
At the end of the day however the 920XM runs hot, the more power you put through it and the more load put upon it the higher the temperatures it will generate.
Throttlestop can be set up simply to run at startup.
Go to Start - Run - Type Task Scheduler and select the program
Click on Create Simple Task and call it Throttlestop - Next
Select (When I log on) - Next
Select (Start a Program) - Next
Browse and find Throttlestop.Exe and select it - Next
Before you finish tick the box to open properties and then select finish.
Change Configure for to Windows 7 and tick the box (Run with highest privileges)
Select Ok and your doneIt will begin at startup.

Thanksso what cooling pad you would advice to me? I am also disliking SF-19 because of USB ports places (they're on the right side - where my mouse is, its not comfortable)
So if i turn off ThrottleStop (Press exit) - my overclocking is not working, right? -
And how to launch that programm already minimized? (won't press minimize window every time i log on)
-
I have had several but settle on the Zalman 3000U because it is quiet and gives good elevation the SF-19 is big brash and noisy and really is only used for benchmarking.
You will need to set Throttlestop to minimised in its own option menu. -
PS Just to be sure - when i exit throttlestop => it won't overclocking my processors in a background mode or they do?Sorry for my stupidness.
-
Not stupid at all when you exit Throttlestop it will stop overriding the system with the settings you use, I sometimes find that the Turbo is not active when you do this and it requires a restart to fix this problem so if you want to stop Throttlestop you will need to remove the simple task too, however I always have Throttlestop running personally it allows you to control the CPU and has never caused any harm from what I have seen. -
By the way, what's ur WEI ratings? Processor, graphics etc...
What do you think if i exchange my Zalman NC3000U on nzxt Cryo lx would be it a waste of money?
Offtopic: how can i check my vBios version? I want to overclock my GPU with AMD Overdrive -
Stick with the Zalman as I said with the G series it is all about the stealth quiet no point ruining that with a bulky cooler than makes no difference to the temps.
My W7 experience results are going to be a lot different see my sig for the link but I am running a different model to you.
7.5/7.8/7.8/7.8/7.9.
Use HWINFO to check your BIOS on the summary screen. -
-
Yeah, that's on his Clevo.
On my JH with the 5870, i get:
7.4/7.4/7.3/7.3/7.8 though, still not bad, but WEI is a poor performance indicator anyways. -
Agreed WEI it is not a good assessment of performance because my setup is a long way from being the best but is only .1 away from the maximum score in WEI terms.
The only reason why your WEI has gone up (CPU) with Throttlestop active is being of your higher clocks that are set for your XM and because the test will be effected by Throttlestop forcing it to 100% performance. -
Okay, thank you guys. Could you please guide me about GPU overclocking
I have used AMD GPU Clock tool but its not saving current Overclocking after reboot, is there any fixes that could deal with that bug? -
-
Leaving ThrottleStop running is the easiest thing to do. It's not a huge resource hog so no worries. -
Now just waiting for your next great invention which changes intels QM into an XM
Overclocking 920XM G73Jh
