Does anyone know if SetFSB works on the G73SW yet? If not, anyone have any ideas on what could do the trick? The BIOS on the SW is pretty sparse, so there is no help there.

I figured this would be the response I would get...

I'm wondering myself if it will be possible, as of now I havent seen or heard anyone OCing a 2630QM. It may not even be possible since I've read certain SB CPUs wont support overclocking at all.

Depends on the chipset you have on the desktop at least. P series allows overclock, H series does not. The G73 comes with H series chipset.

It is not possible due to the Sandybridge architecture and how it differs from its predecessor. If you google around Sandybridge overclocking, there's explanations as to why conventional way of overclocking (raising the BCLK) won't work. This is because with Sandybridge the BCLK is linked with a lot of other frequencies apart from the CPU's, it can alter the frequency of other Buses, the PCI-e and some other frequencies. It'll cause sync problems if you change it more than 5-10 BCLK. So I say you can expect a increase of performance of 50-100MHz tops (at the cost of some stability). That being said maybe Intel will release unlocked mobile Sandybridge CPUs, this is the only way for you to overclock the Sandybridges to a level that you see a difference, by setting the multiplier (this only affects the CPU frequency), but it is not possible on mobile Sandybridge cpus since they're locked.

There are unlocked Sandybridge mobile processors... they're the Xtreme Editions
There will be no standard unlocked ones like the desktops have.

only the 2920xm bro

Since there is very little information out there regarding mobile SB overclocking, I didn't really expect many replies. -
Ah. Forgive me, it's so hard to understand unclear comments online, I just default to "snarky", as that's what most others do.
Intel basically confirmed there would be no third party overclocking when they announced the chips, and explained why... Though I'm sure there will be a bios driven OC available that works around a few of the limitations - but that'll come on desktop boards, not notebook ones. -
Only thing you can do is use the multiplier to OC sandybridge cpus, but since thats locked for Notebook BIOS (except when you use Extreme Edition CPUs), not much overclocking can be done.
Overclocking the 2630QM?
