I have a G74JH that has set nicely on my desk for almost two years. Its a desktop replacement that rarely travels and has had little problems over the years. the only customization to it is 4 month ago I added an SSD drive as its primary.

    The problem
I took it on a trip and during that time it would not boot. This was because the SSD drive became loose. I fixed that on the trip and I returned to find that it would freeze often. Some times every 10 minutes other times lasting most of the day. the screen freezes but everything remains visible. It will also occasionally show a blue screen with the error "clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor" This happens while while surfing the web. nothing intensive.

    What I have tried.
I have checked the temperatures and they are fine so I dont think its paste problem.
I have updated the video card drivers.
I am using the realtek drivers for sound.
The Bios version is 213 and I loaded optimized defaults.
I did a check-disk which found a lot of problems but repaired them.
I attempted to run a memtest86 but that either displayed a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper right or it would load and freeze at 40% of the first pass
When I try and do a memory test with windows the windows boot manager says that the memexe is missing or corrupt.

Is the memory the problem? Is there other things I can check. the FAQ on here had a link for windows 7 random freezing but its dead. posting this in a hurry before it freezes again.

Are you comfortable removing RAM sticks. Try running memtest with just one stick in at a time to try to isolate a bad stick.

Clock interrupt is usually more CPU related, what are your CPU temperatures like?

Regarding your SSD. I discovered that my machine has little soft pads left and right of the SATA port where you plug in the drive. Those pads were to thick for my SSDs, which caused them to not 100% fit. I removed those pads and since then is everything working fine.

Thermal creep could have come in, so doing a complete strip down a rebuild to reseat all the connectors could well help.

I considered it but the fact that I couldnt figure out how to release the metal catches/levers on the side to release the memory indicated Im not savvy enough for it.

I did end up reinstalling the operating system.and Im in the process of updating drivers. since the reinstall there is no freezing and only one blue sceen which was bad pool headers.

after the reinstall I was able to complete the windows memory test and there were no errors found.

but now that I have typed that Im sure Im jinxed. :(

operating temps are around 60 C

If you are looking at the ram, there are to metal pieces on each side of a stick of ram. Gently pull the tip of the metal latches away from the ram and it will just pop out. YouTube can give you a great visual. In fact, just search g73jh ram replacement and it will show you exactly.
