Hey guys, just finished up applying some ICD7 to my gpu, as well as installing some new thermal pads. After some tests, it seems to be a success; about 85C at stock clocks with furmark, 89C with 820/1100, when it used to be 96C/104C respectively. Both GPUz and Hwinfo32 are reporting the same thing. However I am having two problems.
Only my subwoofer is putting out sound; yes I know that audio cable is fragile, but all I was ever able to read was how to disconnect it, not reattach it, I think thats where I went wrong. Anyone care to tell/show me how to do so?
While running the furmark tests, the fan went full blast at only 84C, I am on BIOs 213, why would this happen? I did have extreme difficulty realigning the radiator/heatsink with the fan because the tape on the fan was much smaller then its CPU counterpart, infact I dont think the tape is sticking at all.
I still have all of my tools out, so I would appreciate some help with a little hastethanks.
EDIT: seem to have fixed the microphone disconnect problem asus created for me when I RMAed my machine last...

The audio cable just pops back into the socket you removed it from. I hope you didn't pull up the whole assembly. (pics would help)
Can you also open up the bottom panel and post your part number off the GPU? It ends in -Cxx -
There's only one way to reattach the cable so I doubt you could of put it in wrong or something.

Well I am upset now
I watched Dallers video on just that part many times
G73JH Audio plug removal‏ - YouTube
And mine doesnt even look to have such an assembly...
Sure thing, let me take it apart again.
EDIT: Because I thought the assembly WAS the plug -___- can it be soldered back in? And what about the fan "problem"?

Hold on the subwoofer has nothing to do with that audio cable that is for the two speakers at the top.
The subwoofer cable is just above the touchpad. It connects to one of the sockets there its a film type cable as that runs the subwoofer, headphone socket etc etc
EDIT: Oh no just re read your first message ONLY the sub :/ oh dear did you pull the whole thing off! I told ya dont pull it upwards! lever side to side

Its the Subwoofer that works, the other two that dont, I JUST got the darn plug and socket seperated, had to use two needlenose pliers to do it.
Now I have to take the screen, keyboard assembly, and all the screws off the bottom back off just to see if we can solder the socket back to the board... -
''People just pull the audio cable out and wonder why the tiny 1mm socket comes out with it gently poking it either side and taking your time''
The problem you going to have is it has two pins you must solder a very small amount onto it when you do and make sure you dont burn the board!
Are you still under warranty?
------------------------------------
In regards to the fans that sounds about right, I rarely hit 84oC but mine kicks in around 80oC what was it before? -
Yes I am still under warrnty, but ill be hard pressed to send it in a third time, and have ASUS jack up my thermals for the second time, not to mention bending the keyboard (which I fixed) and disconnecting my mic (which I also fixed)
My fans never went 100% till 95C or so, so your saying yours hit about 4500 rpms at only 80C??? -
So, the soldering was a complete failure, not only did it not fix the issue, but it started shorting the board. Windows went into sort of a bootloop, had to remove the socket, and scrape the solder off of the board to get it to even boot
Ill tell you guys, I can really hate myself sometimes, seems Ive learned every lesson from this laptop the hard way, despite my relatively advanced knowledge in the subject matter... -
I think you learned the big difference between desktop and laptop hardware. When you mentioned you pulled up the speaker connector, I knew immediately you yanked it off the motherboard...
So yep, you'll need a new motherboard. -
Indeed, Ive built custom desktop gaming rigs in the past, but this is not only my first laptop, but also my first time being inside one
lol
Hmm, could such a part be ordered from ASUS? Ive decided I am not going to RMA it. -
i've soldered cell phone boards back to life with nothing better than a 40w iron. you should be able to do it, just be very very patient and don't rebuild till you know you've got it on right. after you solder the connections and it cools, you can scrape the area clean with an exacto knife, just dont cut anything important.
you can totally do this!!!
