I've have been having some issues with my Asus G53sw-xa1, it has had no modifications made to it.

It began with my laptop fluctuating back and forth between "battery mode" and "AC mode" about 20 minutes into running a CPU intensive program (e.g. games, etc.), which was frustrating in and of itself, but was never more than a nuisance.

More recently, I have taken the trouble of opening up the G53 case and cleaned out any dust or debris that may have been lodged in the fans stopping them from doing their job, as I thought it might have been an overheating issue since the fluctuations didn't happen unless my computer was performing intensively for an extended time.

I am already planning on buying a new battery for the laptop soon, since I've been using this one for almost 2 years and it does not keep the machine running for long after i remove the power supply (a little as a few minutes, before unceremoniously crashing). So there is definitely an issue there.

However, when I tried to see if I could run the computer normally with only AC power, the computer would perform normally with regular processes, but didn't take long to crash when I tried on a more graphics intensive game.

Jiggling around the connection point for the power cable, doesn't seem to trigger the fluctuations, so if it's not giving the laptop enough juice, it's not because of how secure the connection is to the power adapter.

Does anyone have an idea where the problem might be?

It could be the brick now struggling to provide full power now.

+1 for power brick as the culprit

Any brick with the correct tip and voltage (+/- 0.5V) should be fine.
