For a month of so now the connection from the power cord to the computer has been pretty wonky. When I'd plug it in the computer would say it was under AC power then immediately change and say it was using battery power. I found that if I moved the cord around a little it would eventually work. Today it stopped working even when I do that. If I hold the cord in tightly it will still work but if I let go even for a second it's back to battery power. I've also noticed the connection from the cord to the laptop gets fairly hot. This seems like a problem with the cord since if I move it around it would sometimes find a connection but I'm not sure. How in the world do I go about figuring out if this is really a problem with just the power supply or if something much more serious is happening? Will computer repair stores have universal plugs to test it out or would I have to buy another adapter to even know. To make matter more complicated I'm moving to China in about a week and I'll be living there for at least a year. Any advice?

    Edit:

After playing around with the position of the plug some more I got it working again. Oddly the plug was hot at first but now is actually quite cool to the touch while power is still working and the computer is still charging.

I had this problem on an old laptop. The connector would actually get too hot to touch, and that was evidenced by eventual blackening of the connector itself, along with melting and it never making a connection again. Ultimately it ended up being an issue with the laptop itself (something got fried inside), and I just ended up buying a new laptop. It started as an issue with the power cord though, in my opinion (the brick died not long after, it was a universal Targus brick that I was using on another laptop after this one).

I'd be concerned. It should never get hot (warm maybe). Quickest solution (and possibly best) is to just go get a new one, Targus apparently has a good rep with bricks for these laptops, though I'm still wary of them as a result of the story up there (and another one that caught on fire a few years later).

The heat is being generated from por contact, aka a short. My old Targus is currentky doing that, so I'm using the newer one which is working great.

There is only one important thing for the Power adaptor. first thing all maker can be acceptable main thing you should check voltage and current value A.

most probably you have 19 / 19.5 V 7.7 / A should be around 150 W it means any of 19.5 V 7.7 V 150 W adaptor acceptable for you of course you should check connection detail but most of the uniersal adaptor has many different connector part
and if you can find same V and A value but more Watt then choise should be that one just check V and A values with Watt

I have already checked the link which you posted if your present Adaptor 19 V and 7.9 A then you can go ahead with subject adaptor without any problem it is quite acceptable no problembut if it is 19.5V then think about it . that s why be sure 19V and 7.9 A,,, 150 Watt is ok also

and this can be better if you can find

My adapter right now, the one that's possibly not working properly, is 19.5V. The thing is though every one I see for sale is 19V. The one on Amazon got good reviews, and I'm running out of time, so I think I'll get that.
