I brought a defective Asus G50V, hoping it was just the power brick. The seller told me it had stopped charging and then he just let it run out of power. I've tried several other power bricks, but I can turn it on. The idea was to use it as a Diablo 3 machine at my girlfriends place, so it doesn't really need to be portable. Can I power it from the battery connector, by cheating it somehow? Is the SMBUS signals necessary or will it boot without? Are the 12 volts from a PC power supply too high for the laptop or will it substitude the 11.1 volts battery?
