Hi i am new in the forum. I am an owner of an Asus G51VX with the follow specs:

    -Core 2 Duo P7350 @ 2.0 GHz

    -GTX 260M (stock speed)

    -4GB ram DDR2

    -Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits

The problem is everytime i am playing demanding games (i.e. Crysis, Bad Company 2, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction) the laptop starts to have a weird behavior: for some reason the power supply stops working and the laptop start to work in battery mode, in fact windows says that i m in battery mode with the power supply connected. If i remove the battery then the laptop shutdown itself while playing demanding games.

The temperatures in the GPU are really awful aswell, i am getting around 100C at full load. So i don't know if it has something to do with my issue.

I am running the lastest bios, and forceware 285.96.

Please help me, does anyone have any idea about whats going on?

PS: I am out of warranty, i am from Chile, and bought the computer as refurbished through eBay.

    What can i do?

i would have a go with google translator or babelfish or something.

Or there might be someone on here that speaks spanish fluently that could help you in your own language.

A friend of mine with that same laptop had the same problem. The power supply eventually just died. Yours will too. You will have to get a new one. Sorry :-/
I can have my girlfriend translate this if you need.

Does sound like the power supply is going bad. But you can also keep the laptop cooler by replacing the thermal paste with Arctic Silver or something similar, and getting a good laptop cooler.

It's most likely the AC adapter is dying. A replacement one *might* fix your power issues. Since you're only seeing the problems during heavy load, it's when your AC adapter is being taxed for power and it can't provide enough power to your machine. -- Also, make sure the AC adapter isn't "over-heating" (i.e. direct sunlight, etc.)

100C on the GPU during full-load is high, but is within' acceptable limits. GTX 260M doesn't start to downclock until it hits 108C but as another poster stated, putting something like Arctic Silver on the HSF assembly on the GPU part would probably help with temps.

    Cheers,
    Kermee

The 260m hits this with high ambients. Since you're in south america, I'm going to assume it's hot there... compared to us up here in canada.

Not really, we are in winter here (Chile) , so we are near 15C, or even cooler... but i will tell Manuxd to test a new AC adapter, and change the thermal paste.. that may help. Anyway i readed a time ago that the G51VX has overheating issues in GPU.. is that a comun issue in this laptops?

Check out the ASUS E store, you can pick up a replacement charger there:
    ASUS Online eStore

I recommend replacing the GPU thermal interface material, your temps at load (100c) are way too high and the GPU is thermal throttling lowering your performance....
