Hello,
So I did the upgrade for my G51 laptop to T9400 yesterday. However, I notice that the temperature of Nvidia 260GTX now stays at 80 C even at idle while the cpu itself is good at 50 C. I use speed fan to check but the fan speed does not show up! Is it possible that I messed with the fan while doing the upgrade??

I'm not sure about the fan speed, but if your GPU is idling higher, it is probably because the thermal pads on the heatsink were damaged when you removed the heatsink assembly. You can get replacements - I'm not exactly sure what the right depth is but they're on the deep side.

Yeah but to get the CPU heatsink off you also have to take off the GPU one because they are connected by the heatpipe. Did you replace the thermal pad on the GPU heatsink with thermal paste? Because you'd need a very thick paste and a lot of it to fill that gap. Some people use copper shims and thick paste instead of replacing the thermal pad for the GPU.

Yeah while you're at it you might as well replace the northbridge thermal pad too. In the meantime I wouldn't stress your gpu much, if at all possible. If it's running really hot you run the risk of killing the vram with heat.

But you won't use a pad on the GPU itself!?

Thanks for the advice

Tonight I did the 3DMark Vantage benchmark and scored only 3889 for GPU and 5082 for CPU. Is that too strange? I think people with worse laptop can score better than that!
