3 weeks ago i purchased an A1 model from Amazon/Adorama, since i was on vacation i didnt have time to make all the configurations and updates needed. (excelent buy, with 1333 memory and no keyboard lag at all)
Yesterday i did the upgrades on BIOS 211, VBIOS fixed ith OD and updated my catalyst to 10.8 (using the link on AMD page).
When im on battery mode i have an issue while playing some videos ive recorded on my trip. The video play well for a while then the laptop freezes, i get a white or gray screen (audio still plays on background). Then after some seconds screen comes backs and i have a notifications from windows saying that ATI driver stopped working and then was fixed back.
Whats the cause of this?
PS: when i was trying to update catalyst i tried to follow the guide ppl use here on forum and installed Drive Sweeper, but the program aways showed me error messages when i tried to remove the original catalyst so i just downloaded th uninstaller program from ATI and uninstaled it. After i used CCleaner on security mode and then installed the 10.8 from ATI page.
i would also like to know what are good configurations to use on Power4Gear and ATI when plugged (for gaming) and battery mode (internet and watch movies, videos)
thx in advice

I had this issue when I left my clocks above 700/1000. Are you running on stock clocks?
-

no one can help me on this? maybe a setup on clock when on battery mode... im clueless here
-
Can you check your clocks on battery mode and post them? Do you experience any other problems while you're plugged in and gaming?
Also, I know it'd be a pain to flash again, but have you tried Gary's vBIOS? (without OD)? -
i discovered the problem.
When on battery mode with saving energy settings my clocks are 250/500
when i start a video it goes to 500/1000 and then suddenly it goes to 400/1000 and then i got a GSOD and a freeze... after some seconds it goes back to 500/1000 and the video continue to play till it falls down to 400/1000 again and GSOD again.
This only happens on battery mode and ive tested it with maximum performance and entertainment on battery and it still happens.
What can i do to prevent this drop on core clock on battery? -
i see lots of ppl discussing about clocks setting and etc here and none can help me on this?
-
What application are you viewing the videos with?
-
it dont seem to happen with all players bc they dont seem to use the same clocks config
Windows Media Player uses 500/1000 (both High Performance and Entertainment) on MP4 (problem) but keep 250/500 (High Performance) 405/1000 (Entertainment) on MKV (no problem)
Media Player Classic Home Cinema x64 uses 500/1000 (both High Performance and Entertainment) on MKV and MP4 (problem on both)
Quicktime keep 250/500 (High Performance) 405/1000 (Entertainment) with MP4 (no problem)
in resume... if the player uses 500/1000 on battery it will eventually go down to 400/1000 and then crash for some seconds. if it keeps 250/500 or 405/1000 it dont have any problem.
is it possible to edit those clocks setting and maybe fix them on a value that never drop?
ill test it on game also but i dont have any game here now to test... ill get LOL and make some test to see if on 700/1000 it drops also
thx in advice -
i tried AMD GPU TOOL but it dont seem to allow me to change the 2D and 3D clocks...
i wanna fix the video playback clocks on 500/1000 for all aplications... how can i do this?
edit:
screenshot off the clock comportament while playing 1080p video
clock is 405/1000, goes 500/1000 on video and then drops to 400/1000 and crash till get back to 500/1000

So what BIOS are you on?
-
-
im afraid of trying to reflash a vbios again so i really want to try anything before that.
i think ill try a upload to 10.9a or maybe 10.10 an see what it results -
updated to 10.10 and im still having this problem.
plz help -
stay on 10.10
you updated the BIOS, vBIOS, and drivers.
NOW TRY UPDATING YOUR VIDEO PLAYBACK SOFTWARE
1) update Adobe Flash
2) if you use MPC HC, update that too
3) get updates for PowerDVD or whatever you use
