I bought this computer back in December 2009 from Best Buy (it's the G72 rbbx05). It runs like a beast, but recently it's come across two very odd problems.

The first happened while I was playing League of Legends. Every so often my computer would stutter and then completely freeze entirely with an endless sound loop of whatever happened to be playing when it happened. I consulted Legends forums to see if there was an answer to my problem there and it doesn't appear to be [entirely] program related, but all the 'fixes' haven't seemed to work.

Now I usually close out of any unnecessary programs and processes while playing Legends. I'm not sure if it actually does anything, but it feels like it does. I also keep my computer reasonably cool (44 - 50C, it could be worse =/).

The other problem happened just last night. After a few hours of my computer being off, when I tried to turn it on (via the power button!) it refused. I tried all the other fancy little tabs near the power button and the only thing that finally worked was the 'Express Gate' tab. I've been using it to turn on my computer ever since (I've shut it down a few times to see if the power button might function). The lights for the express gate and power button also aren't coming on either, yet they were available last night.

Could something have happened that recently? I haven't moved my computer around, in fact...I don't think I've moved it these past few months.

I've actually seen a few power button issues with some of the ASUS G series units, but I don't remember hearing that it is a widespread issue with the G72. Unfortunately, for something like that you will likely need to RMA the computer since most cases of that issue have been hardware related. If you're still under warranty with Best Buy, I would start by contacting them first. Of course, you can always contact the ASUS support as well.

As for the freezing, does it happen when you are doing anything other than playing LoL? Are there other games that cause this to happen as well?

It froze when I was on Skype once. The situation was nearly identical. Stutter, freeze, sound loop. Sadly my warranty ran out about a year ago, so that's a no. As for other games that it's happened on, I can't say it has. Runescape hasn't had the effect, but it's a browser based game (which isn't very graphics heavy) and doesn't soak up the resources that LoL or TF2 do (never froze on TF).

The temp readers I have for my computer only display my processors, hard drives and motherboard. The GPU is there, but it has no temp read out.

I sat and ran it through multiple endurance tests today. I played Legends with the AC off (Temp maxed at 74-75C), Legends with the AC on (63-64C), Legends with the AC and Itunes (68-71C) and I didn't decide to attempt it without AC for both programs. Amazingly I had no freeze-ups and haven't had any in the past week or so. Maybe it's just luck? Or maybe it was just an odd problem that worked itself out?

EDIT: It happened again tonight. This time it was weird. The computer didn't stutter at all, it just jumped right into a freeze. I'm still not convinced it was program related, and I've heard it may even be RAM related (I'm slightly tech-savvy, but I have no clue if that's correct or not). Thing is, I've already run memtest and shown no problems with it.

    Please and thank you. :)
