    Hey guys

I used to be active in this forum till a couple of months back when I started internship and I've basically been living in the hospital since then. I have a G53JW which I bought three years back. The computer has been good to me till recently. The problems I'm facing with my computer are:

    1. My screen gets distorted at times when I move the lid with the laptop on. It's actually not a distortion but rather a change in the colour. The screen kinda becomes green and pink but the screen does not switch off or become blank. I hope I'm able to get the query across. It's more like the colours change from the 16 million colours to RGB and I have to hit my laptop hard on the palm rest for the colour to return back to normal. But I notice this only when my laptop becomes hot (I need to do a repaste).

    2. The screen brightness cannot be changed no matter what I try. Using Fn+F5/6 only brings the icon from the Asus control utility thing for the brightness. But there is no change in the brightness at all. As a result, the screen is stuck in full brightness all the time and can be a pain when I work on it at night without lights as the screen is too bright to look at then. The other Fn+F functions (including the monitor off function) work properly. I tried re-installing the Control Deck utility but to no avail.

    3. My laptop simply does not shut down. It happened all of a sudden one day. I realised that I had shut down my laptop but it just stays on the screen saying shutting down till it runs out of charge. Same thing happens when I try to restart it. It does not shut down and I have to force shut down it by pressing the power button for a long time. Once in a blue moon, it works fine by shutting down like normal.

Any idea as to what could be wrong guys? I hope my laptop is not nearing its end. I really like this laptop and I wish I could hold on to it for some more time. Any help will be appreciated.

    Regards,
    Vipin

PS. I've also got a couple of dead pixels and I've tried everything available online but it wouldn't work so I've left it at that. The Asus guys in Kerala, India I'm not pretty sure about so I'm scared to give my laptop to them to experiment on.

You may have to just bite the bullet and format your hard drive. If you've never reinstalled Windows, now would probably be a good time to do so.

Why re-install Windows again? I've done it like four times already due to different reasons. I've got so much data and settings and stuff and hardly any time :( Damn

You may have a bad LVDS cable or it could simply be loose, that would explain the screen issues.

    2. Try removing control deck and using windows controls for screen brightness

3.. Shutdown issues are often software related, to isolate the issue try booting into safe mode and test the shutdown. If it works, check your logs: computer management - event viewer - custom views - admin events and windows logs- application & System

    1. LVDS cable connection is bad. You can check this by connecting it to an external monitor and seeing that it doesn't have that same problem. The fact that it's when the laptop gets hot supports this - the motherboard will shift slightly because of a rise in temp. You could reseat it, but opening a G53 is a nightmare I'm currently going through myself and the LVDS cable requires you to remove all but the motherboard.

    2. Uninstall the ATK and Power4Gear packages, update (fresh install) NVIDIA drivers and reinstall the ATK then the Power4Gear packages. That should take care of it.

    3. Never seen that before. Safe mode tests like what's suggested above are a good start.
