I'd like to swap out the Intel P8700 I have now with possibly an i3 or i5, but I know NOTHING about processors' compatibility like "socket" and "chipset" and those kind of things, so I want to know if it's even possible. Also, if I did do the swap, would that change what type of RAM I'd have to use from then on?

Well thanks, Einstein, but I just left the Intel website after comparing different processors, only to discover everything was greek to me.

    WHICH IS WHY I'M HERE....

Oh yes being rude to people that is certainly the way to get the help you need.

Let me try that again. How about google? Why not type G72GX CPU Upgrade? I found everything I needed to know in 30 seconds....

Oh no wait that is too difficult ok so again these will fit:

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9600/T9400/P8600/P8400/P7350 : 2.8 GHz - 2.0 GHz, 1066MHz, 6/3MB On-Die L2 Cache

The CPU Socket for these is PGA478 / PM45 chipset

I posted the same information in my first post.

By the way when you put the CPU into the socket make sure you apply a significant amount of pressure or it may not slot in correctly, put a screwdriver under the old CPU to pry it out.

    Have a great day :D

    You are officially my favorite.

And just because I felt it necessary to add this, an i3/i5/i7 would not be compatible with the socket, only the Core 2 CPU's that Yiddo listed would work.
