Finally broke down and ordered my new laptop from Powernotebooks.com after months of research, product comparison, reviews, etc. I was looking at Dell XPS 15 and the new HP dv7tqe but in the end the quality of Asus won me over.

    Asus G53SW-A1
    i7-2630qm (2.0-2.9GHz w/ turbo boost)
    Nvidia GTX 460m 192 bit 1.5Gb DDR5 GPU
    8GB 1333 RAM (4 SODIMMs)
    Blu-ray / DVD combo drive
FHD 1080p 15.6" LED backlit (glossy)
    500GB SATA II 7200rpm HDD
    WiFi + Bluetooth wireless a/g/n
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
    Asus Gaming backpack & mouse
    2 year P/L warranty & 1 year A/D warranty

Delivered for $1,419...of course this is my signature now so you'll see a slight repost! :p

    Nvidia link: GeForce GTX 460M

Note: if you bought your G53 from BestBuy, you got the watered-down 128 bit version. It may also be on the amazon.com and buy.com versions. There's a REASON those are cheaper.

Yea there are 2 versions of the 460m bestbuy version is watered down with only 128bit + 1GB

Congrats, I've done a bit of research these past couple of weeks and if I was to chose a Gaming Laptop right now, the G53SW would be it. Not many laptops can compete with the value/price. I'm not really sure of the build quality, but the local bestbuy has a the 17" G73 on display, feels solid so I guess it's pretty much the same.

The thing that's putting me off though is the upcoming 560M that's going to be released (560GTX released today), probably not much better then the 460M but a little improvement + battery life is worth the wait for me.Got a gaming desktop with 8800GT to keep me busy in the meantime. Also a couple of questions,

1.How does the screen compare to other 15" LCD's regardless of resolution, just your basic review.

    2. I've been lurking around and some people say it's bad portable wise, as it is really bulky and a SAGER would be a better choice. What is your opinion on the feel and mobility? I personally prefer the look of the ROG laptops ( BEAST :D ).

I'm not sure if you already have it, but whenever you get a chance to use it. Any comments would be helpful :).

    1. I like the screen. I use mine indoors mostly and even with the lights on there is very little glare. Positioned correctly I don't even see any glare. I turn the lights off when watching Blu-rays and for gaming I have the lights on dim. It is a 72% color gamut screen so it is not the best out there but nor is it shotty. The Dell XPS 15 1080p B+RGLED is better, but not by much imho. On a 1080p screen this small you won't really notice much difference unless you sit within 18" of it.

    2. For portability, it is more "blocky" than a regular 15" laptop but that is to be expected with its design, however, it is still smaller and easier to tote than 17" laptops.

I do not like the poor audio of Sagers, nor do Sagers come with a backlit keyboard for low light situations.

This thing is a beast, looks awesome, sounds great, and even if it were to weigh 12 pounds I'd still carry it around in a backpack. Only sissies complain about laptop weight. I'm prior army infantry and carried FAR HEAVIER than that around.

Awesome, thanks for the info helps ALOT, the sound is definitely a plus :), I never heard anyone talk about the audio on these laptops. I just checked on newegg there is a 17" G73 for 50$ more then the G53 at 1,250 HOOLLLLYY!!! woww.... that's looking really tempting. I'm guessing a new version is coming out ? why the ~200 dollar drop??? Will it rise back up?? I don't know if I should just pull the trigger now or wait to see if something new's coming up.

If your wanting it now, the G74 doesnt seem that much better IMHO. If it were me, I wouldnt take my chances on price going up and just order it, but ofc, I'm impatient when it comes to buying laptops :>.
