Okay, so I bought a g60vx from a guy. I want to do some upgrades, mainly the cpu. I was wondering if my motherboard is the one that's compatible with the Q9000 quad core cpu or higher. I know that G60vx-rbbx05(best buy) is not. What I don't know if my g60vx is the best buy version. The only thing it says on the bottom is:
    Model: G60VX
    MB Ver: G60VX
    03N0ASKRR796214D
    Check Number: 5494

    Piriform Speccy gives me:
    Motherboard
    Manufacturer- PEGATRON Corp.
    Model- G60VX (Socket 478)
    Version- 1.0
    Chipset Vendor- Intel
    Chipset Model- PM45
    Chipset Revision- 07
    Southbridge Vendor- Intel
    Southbridge Model- 82801IM (ICH9-M)
    Southbridge Revision- 03

    BIOS
    Brand American Megatrends Inc.
    Version- 205
    Date- 08/27/2009

I've been doing my own research for the past two weeks but couldn't really find much. If anyone can help me out with this I would be in your debt :)

Is there anyone that's having the same "problem"? Or anyone that can help out with this?

The Q9000 and Q9100 fit in that socket, so the only way to know for sure if it'll work is to try.

Make sure you also update the bios to the latest version so you get the latest CPU microcode.

Okay, I guess I'll just have to take a chance. Do you know what the latest BIOS is for my laptop? Right now I have version 205.

205, according to asus spec sheet the g60vx supports quad core in general, but i've heard that the bestbuy edition doesn't

This doesn't really help me. I put in my serial and under specifications It says all the available processors it can have, quad core being one of them. I also have a serial number from a g60vx-rbbx05 and it shows the exact same thing, and we already know that the rbbx05 is not compatible with the quad core.

If it can't support a q9000 then go with a good core 2 extreme.

That's what I'm trying to figure out here. I guess I'll just have to take the chance and buy the quad core and hope it works.

So I took the laptop apart to find the motherboard part number. Mine is 60-NV3MB1200-A12. I think I saw somewhere that the A12 does not support quad cores. Is this true?
