I use headphones for gaming/music. Would it benefit me to have the Creative drivers/software or should I just stick with the Realtek I have installed?

I had some BSOD's originally and kind of jumped the gun by uninstalling all the Creative software. I now can't seem to reinstall it because it doesn't recognize my device. I read in another thread not to update Realtek, which I did at one point, but since have rolled back. Still same issue.

Any ideas how to get around it?

I had that exact problem last night. I downloaded it, didn't work. Realized I had my driver disk in my laptop (I was nowhere near home), and it installed fine from there. Don't get it.

Yup, same here - worked like a charm.

I can say that the Creative software makes gaming with headphones 10x better!

So wait there is a way around the freezing the creative drivers would cause? It's been a while since I've looked into that as at the beginning the only choice was to uninstall.

I can tell you that I'm not experiencing any freezing issues with Creative software. All I play is games through Steam.

So latest creative drivers would be off the disc then? Now where did I put that thing....

Nice if you don't have freezing issues. Just keep your Realtek upgraded and BIOS over 206 (209 or above for vBIOS fix) ad you will b fine.

About headphones. I'm a Bose user as well as you are, and for the G73 than any other audio device (phone, mac, ipod, etc) the best setting for your bose is the one recommended for the manufacturer.... DO NOT USE ANY EQ SETTING if you want to enjoy in deep the great bass boost from you bose headphones. In my case, i don't use bass boost from creative when I use headphones. The Creative EQ settings do not change significantly the audio output through your headphones.

The magical fix for the Creative locks is to supposedly to enable CMSS-3D in the Audio Panel.

Then its not supposed to lock up anymore. :D I wouldn't know though. It worked for a bit, then froze up, then worked again. Even with updated Realtek drivers.

    Funny stuff.

Hmm is there a link to the creative drivers other than the 1.6GB image of the Drivers and Utilities disc?
