Hello, I've been wondering if there is a driver for the 5870 Mobile for windows XP, the one on the Asus site doesn't work for windows XP and I have been unable to find anything on this and I'm hoping someone here can help me :D
I've found the driver for everything else but for the video card.

I know some of you might say "Oh hey whats the point of Windows XP on the G73 if Windows 7 has backwards compatibility" I love Windows XP is the answer to that :D

    Thats a Directx 11 card though! :p

You can get virtual windows manager so that you can have a virtual operating system and have vista and xp running through that.

You would need to test to see what drivers run most stable with XP as W7 is a lot better than Vista I would be surprised if many wud bother with a G73 W XP anymore.

    Windows XP = Old machines
    Windows 7 = New Machines

    as simple as that...
for example i will install XP if i want my old 10 years MUSTEK scanner to work (becouse it is old and there is only drivers for XP)
but you don't have old parts in the G73

why don't u just install windows 7 and find the XP theme ... if u are so in love with XP :)

Yeah I think thats it I know a few people that use it I dont personally as I find Windows 7 does everything I need.

Apparantely you can have several ''virtual'' operating systems running at once using multi threading.

If it is some software/hardware that only works on XP, either use Windows XP Mode (no DirectX support), or VirutalBox/VMWare to run an actual virtual machine (Windows XP Mode is using Remote Desktop, which is not really how virtual machines are defined). There's no need for you to dual-boot XP, as G73 is more than capable of running XP in virtual machine and still have enough juice for you to do other stuff.

If you like the xp UI, i'm sure you can find a theme and tweak a few setting to have 7 look and feel like xp. XP isn't supported by microsoft anymore which means that security problems won't get fixed and since there is still a good amount of xp machines out there security issues will only increase. If you need xp, use a virtual machine like the other suggested, xp mode only works for win7 pro/ultimate, other than that you need to use a workaround.

all new OS, have better drivers, and better compatibility to the new hardware, old OS do not take all the power from you card or other hard.
