    I saw,xn1,xa1....etc

The A1 model should only be about $80-$100 more net than the XN1 or nearly the same price as the XA1. There is a $150 mail-in rebate available on the G53SW-A1 for July. Please keep in mind A1 has 2 year global warranty as oppose to 1 year on the XA1/XN1. For the HDD caddy, you would have to order one from ASUS directly for around $22.50 and screws are not included accordingly to other G53 owners. Screws you will need: HDD to Caddy M3x3 (4 count) + Caddy to Chassis M2x3L (2 count).

    a) You don't need a 2nd caddy, you can make one out of duct tape....
and b) the big difference between them is usually screen resolution and warranty time.

I'd like to add to this thread if I may:

Q1 - Am I correct in saying that if I want to upgrade my G53SW from 8 to 16GB that finding that last memory slot will void my memory due to a complete disassemble?

    Q2 - a 2nd HDD requires a caddy or cradle?

Q1, no, you won't void your warranty. Thats only if you have to detach the cpu/gpu heatsink(at least from what I remember).

Q2, some G53SW models come with the second caddy even if the slot is empty. So you may get lucky and it will already be there. If not, like DCx said, you can duct tape/rig up something. Paying for a caddy would be most recommended still, but with it being so expensive, if you can rig it up good and stable. Then I wouldnt worry about buying one so much.
