I had a G75VW before and the audio quality was very bad no matter what drivers or tweaks with the equalizer I tried.

I am getting a G75VX soon as a present from ASUS Dubai. Does the G75VX have the same VIA chipset and same bad audio or is it a different chipset and how's the quality?

Also, they told me it has 24 GB RAM but I had 16 GB RAM before and it was running in Dual Channel mode does that mean that in 24 GB it won't be dual channel mode any more because as you know for dual channel mode to work RAM chips must be installed in pairs

The G75VX comes with a Realtek HD Audio chipset. it produces more high end quality performance in terms of frequencies compared to VIA audio, and there are less problems with the Subwoofer tho.

Dual channel mode would only apply if you only had 2 Ram sticks installed, so if you had 16GB, that means you had 2x 8GB of RAM, so the computer will read it as a Dual channel (running at 798Mhz?) if I recall which is fine (it splits the speed to two.)

if it's 24GB it will still be a dual channel, but you will be missing a stick 3/4. honestly you shouldn't worry about RAM channels

Well if it comes with 24GB that means it could have 8GB for each stick 3 out of 4 slots, meaning 1 is free. to propely have dual channel running, each side of the 2x ports must have rams with the same GB size/ speed

so you would have 2 sticks 8GB running at 1600Mhz on one side (the part of the slots you can't access without dissembling the laptop) and 1 on the accessible slots.

Ivy Bridge is dual channel so make sure you have 12GB installed on each channel.

8 + 4 in each channel will give you dual channel. 8 + 8 in one and 4 + 4 in another will give you async dual channel which is a very small performance loss. Honestly it doesn't matter but if you want to be 100% sure you don't lose out on any performance just put 8 + 4 in each channel.

in other words, if it came stock it should run at dual channel. if not you can just remove the stick you can access or buy the same stick and get 32GB with dual channel running

    thanks for the explanation

At the moment, it has 8 GB in each slot so 3x8 is 24 GB

I ordered another 8 GB stick from ASUS (the exact same one in the laptop at the moment) which should arrive in a week

You should be fine with a non asus stick so long as it is the same specs as the current lot lol.
