I noticed that there is an MXM-III socket on this motherboard which means u can replace the graphic card.
The question is whether you can upgrade the GTX 460M / ATI 5870 to a better graphic card or just replace them with each other?

In the past its always had to been an ASUS card. The G73 card pics arent good enough for me to see but on past models the connector was flipped so the chips were on the wrong side of the board.

I'm not sure if anyone has tried replacing one with the other or if they are the same size.
There are no compatible cards to upgrade to though so it's pretty much a moot point. -
can anyone confirm that? or explain about this MXM thing?

As I have learned so far it looks like Asus really began to use industrial standard regarding mxm slot. But remember there are still other factors in game here like heatsink compatibility and bios support.

We have the MxM-III Type B in out G73. And as on mxm-upgrade.com it seems like we should be able to swap Type b cards. They should all have the same type of heatsink to. The vibos might be the only problem as Asus i think only made the G series support the card vbos that the model was (JW or JH).
mxm-upgrade.com should have a mxm-III type B 6970 for saleNow if only someone would make a vbios
Someone here as tried to put a 460 in a JH or the other way ? If they work like that then going to 6870 or 6970 should not be a problem if we can get the power out of the rig. -
This is a reverse type B! And the vbios is on the gpu-part itself.

Did not someone but a G73JH card in a AW 17x ?
The heatsinks on the JH and JW are the same:

Idk, why it's called "reverse". To me, the card looks completely different. Shorter but thicker. -
If you say the vbios is on the card then there should be no problem to swap a 5870 to a 460 exept if there is a chip on the motherboard that does not allow this. -
here are the A type and B type side by side:
