    Hey guys,
So I've been having overheating problems, and am going to bring my G73JH in for a repaste at the first opportunity. However, I wanted to confirm something about temperature recording. I've been using the GPU clock tool to track GPU heat and Speedfan to track CPU heat, and the GPU heat is consistently 10-20 degrees higher than that of the CPU. Does this indicate a problem with the thermal paste on the GPU, as I suspect? Furthermore, which of the three heat values for the GPU clock tool is the most accurate? They're often different by as much as 5 or 6 degrees, so I want to make sure I'm judging by the correct one. Thanks!

for gpu temps i would use gpuz
    Download TechPowerUp GPU-Z v0.5.0 | techPowerUp

when you open gpuz click on the sensors tab at the top and and look at the gpu temperature thats the actual gpu temp the gpu temp 1,2,3 are either vrms or memory temps

my card stays at a steady 56c

and for cpu i would go with coretemp
    Core Temp

and my cpu stays between 40-50c

According to that my GPU is at anywhere from 65-72C during normal activity (browsing the Internet, listening to Itunes, etc) which I'm going to take as a sign that I most definitely need to repaste. :p

My core temps are low to mid 50s when my GPU temp is that high, so seems like it's just the GPU having the heat problem.

For temp/anything monitoring (temps, battery etc) I use Hardware Monitor, but with a twist...

Basically, I run this for the gadget, but it also logs the highest temp for each sensor in the tray portion of this stuff... I love it personally.

For your convenience, you may use HWiNFO32 for tracking temperature on your beast. It can track processor core temps, gpu temps (DispIO, MemIO, Shader), HDD temps, GPU and CPU fan speed and many more.

Try operating your GPU at CCC to be at Maximize Battery option at PowerPlay to lower your temps, if you are not gaming and just browsing the internet.

Would I accomplish that simply by changing a setting under power management? And is there anything else I can do to lower idle temps that doesn't involve physically cracking open the unit, like a BIOS update or something?

Also, thanks for the link Chastity; I definitely need a repaste and there's a place near me that does it under warranty so I just need to manage everything for little over another month until I can get the repaste done.
