My G73JH have been running relatively high temps recently (97C on BF3 with 30C+ ambiance) and this has been bugging me since BF3 launched. Most other games like NFS World or Renegade Ops also records about 90C with similar ambiance. I am feeling rather uncomfortable with this temp as its getting close to 110C.

I have just bought a tube of ICD 7 just in case i need an urgent repaste and trying to get all the tools and alcohol. I choose ICD7 due to the amazing performance and also the ease of application with squeezing out the 5 to 5.5mm ball, then screw the heat sink back on it.

My question is, how difficult is repasting will be for someone who have never repasted his laptop before? I did build a few desktops back before i started playing games on a laptop. Also, made my own amp back in high school. Other than that, i never really did anything else. I think i am just unconfident in repasting myself because i dont want to turn my laptop to a $2000 paper weight.

Also, what other crucial information do i need for repasting? Other than the manual in pdf format, BTO videos, and the threads that comes with the helpful diagrams and tips in the sticked thread. I am well aware of the filmsy speaker cable and also the difficulty in removing the keyboard. Other than that, it looks like it's just removing screws.

If you have build someting before then it should not be a problem. Just take your time and my advice is fin a big desk, take on sheet of A4 paper (to put the screws on and just take it nice and slow. The hardest parts are the keyboard removal as it is taped to notebook + the clips and the small connector for the lights. I used a long ruler to get the keyboard unstuck.

Just print the manual out and take it nice and slow :) its not rocket science :)

Did you try to clean the back vents ? 90c is a bit high but the vents are known to collect dust ....and fast

Thanks, DH48, i did try to clean my vents with a air compressor, but it did not work at all. Sure it drops a couple of degrees but its still rather high.

How long do i need for repasting? 2 hours?

I do hope after repasting, i could run my 5870 on 800/1100.

I think i did it in about 1 h and 20 min or so for the first time. I even marked on the paper were i removed the screws so id but the back in the right order lol.

If you get the keyboard off then the rest should be easy. (if you use the manual)

There are some pretty good repasting guides on this site too. I'm pretty sure the user Dallers has one in his sig. Look him up perhaps

And if you're dumb and slow like me, it could take you more like 5 hours. However, everything worked at the end, my temps are great, and I'm very happy :D

Just make sure you are careful with the keyboard you do not need to bend it like the BTOtech guy did in that vid as already mentioned time is of the essence.

Plenty of good guides about I have one in my sig also as mentioned but do it how you feel comfortable research is the key. :)
