Apologies, but scrolling/searching through 274 pages of unrelated discussion is just not practical - does anyone have a hard answer as to where I can buy a functional caddy for a SSD for my G73? I don't mind jury-rigging, just want to get it done.

    Thanks!

You can get the bracket for the G71 through the estore.asus.com website but I really had to massacre the thing to fit it and in the end it's being held with one screw.

Well, that's highly unfortunate. I suppose I can give it a try - thanks for the tip. If anyone happens upon a better solution, I'm clearly interested!

Find out what kind of tape they are using under the keyboard. That stuff is strong. lol.

haha! There was only one run of that alien artifact tape ever made, and they used it all on the G73's keyboard. The blue-print has since been destroyed.

LOL- I was reading about that this morning. I'm still hesitant to use any tape on it as opposed to some kind of caddy solution. From what I can tell, none of the ASUS caddys will fit perfectly. Werry apparently got one to fit without modification but doesn't know the model #.

The caddy from the G72 looks like a closer fit than the G71 but it's out of stock on the website.

I would advise NOT using the same tape on the keyboard on the drive.

Upon removal, you might rip the drives casing off ;)

lol, now that would suck. Maybe the metal casing of the SSD would just bend a little? :p

Sure but first someone has to reinvent the alien technology it was made from.

Fantastic - so, ostensibly, my options are:

1.) Tape (somehow, I knew it would come to this).

    2.) A hackneyed one-screw Mandrake special.

    3.) Wait.

I don't think I can recommend my solution and definitely cannot recommend tape. Those SATA connectors are cheap plastic.

I still have to decide what I'm going to do with mine now. Since the return of my Alienware I have an Intel 160GB SSD, Mushkin 128GB SSD, Seagate 500GB 7200RPM and a 320GB WD Scorpio Black. About two months ago I was actually short hard drives.

I was actually not kidding about the 3m tape. I have used it in HP laptops here at work that did not have a drive cage. As long as you use a good brand and heavy duty double sided it works fine. Takes some finesse (you do have finesse, don't you?) but has held well for over 2 years on a particular line of laptops I had to use it on.

This should probably tell you to hold on to most of them! :p

I do have a tendency to sell things to quickly. At least I haven't tried selling my 720 yet.

I'd buy it. I could probably tape 2 of them together and then manufacture an interface in my garage that doubles it's performance! :p
