Hello all. I'm going to get straight to the point. My touchpad is still awful after tons of software fixes and I've given up on trying to fix it with drivers. My laptop has overheated and shut down in the past, although it seems after I sprayed some compressed air into the vents, it ceased to happen. Anyway, I really don't want to do another RMA (had to get my power input fixed before) because of the time period. I have a service center nearby and I was wondering if they would be fully capable of fixing my touchpad along with repasting my cpu and gpu with my own paste. The service center is authorized according to Asus' website. I'm wondering if anybody has any experience or advice about this. Thank you.

ASPs usually do a very good job, better than at a RMA center most of the time.I say go for it.

Thank you for the input! I was actually messing with the drivers last night and after 6 months, I think my touchpad is working. I don't believe it. I was convinced that mine was a hardware flaw (sticky tape, that sort of thing). However, I would still like to get it repasted.

Unfortunetely this may not be a permanent thing if it is bravo.

There is a long discussion in regards to this (link below) and I feel your pain I have been through this and it made me so angry. I also believe heat is related because since my repaste I have had minimal problems along with my fix to the touchpad which was hardware related because of sticky tape around the touchpad film causing it to stick. You can view what I did here.

If its software or hardware it might be best to take action yourself last thing you want is to pay out for a repair that may not fix the problem or worst case scenario make it worse.

Again with repasting highly recommend it there are links to this all over the forum and my own personal one in my sig.

    All the best.

I read through many of your posts (and others) and it's clear that the results are there. I feel like I would be able to repaste it and remove some of that sticky tape myself, but then I thought, "why risk the warranty if I could get an authorized service center to do it for me?" I'm just very conflicted at this point.

EDIT: Dallers, is your touchpad problem completely resolved or does it still rarely act up?

If you have a warranty then yes its probably best although my anger and fear of RMA centres you are going about it the right way as long as you find a trustworthy repair centre like you have.

I guess in a way I was lucky mine was out of warranty because I love tinkering and take satisfaction in fixing things myself. I would expect with care and attention you could easily repaste and fix your touchpad as the first step is to research which you are doing and then to prepare not just jump in repaste bend the keyboard and snap the audio cable as many have done. :swoon:

Yes. I was up late last night reading through all of the posts and I was thinking I'm competent, I can do this. Then I saw the broken speaker cable and the broken keyboards etc etc and it scared me. I believe I'd be careful enough with all of these precautions/videos/pictures. I may just go to the service center this time, and if it isn't resolved, I'll dig in. Thank you for your response.

Im heavy handed and always do things without preparing, but 9 times I have taken mine apart and its still in mint condition I honestly dont know how its possible to break those things so easily because even a brute like me is cautious! Unless I suppose you hack at it with a really thick screwdriver! haha. You would be fine im sure. good luck!
