It doesn't look any bigger than the GX700VO 17" laptop, checkout the video clip and full presentation posted in this thread to see for yourself :)

apparently its 18.4" i think. but some source say it'll come with dual PSU so that solves 1 biggest issue that msi gt80 couldnt solve LOL.

too bad still only 4.4ghz while clevo can go upwards 5ghz =(

time to wait for MSI see their update on gt80s line up, it'll be interesting to see what they got for offer now.

The photos posted in this thread show a side view with the two hunky power cables connected - one to the laptop and one to the cooler - each 330w = 660w :)

The photo's showing the head on, with the screen / keyboard seems to be a 17" screen, not an 18", but I suppose it's possible.

It's been along time since I had an 18" Asus W90vp-a1

It would be great if Asus came out with a larger than 17" screen laptop :)

The GX 800 suggests 18", since something 5something and something 7something are 15" and 17" respectively.

Not the best solution if you ask me.

That's the stock overclocking. I think that there's manual tuning, would love to see if it can go higher and how much.

The GX700 was already taken, GX701 also, I think Asus wanted to differentiate the lines due to the SLI angle.

    I hope it's 18" too :)

That is a 6820HK, normally stable at 4ghz on air, some lucky guys say 4.3ghz, but IDK if that is gaming stable, or "wow look at that!!" stable.

I would think 4.4ghz with that CPU is about it, especially since it's a 45w TDP CPU, so long compute use at highest clock is gonna downclock quickly and well below what it could run at long term if you started it lower to begin with.

45w TDP would likely be 3.5ghz/3.6ghz long term stable clock maximum.

I am surprised Asus didn't use the 6920HQ, which also overclocks, as that is what MSI uses in their GT80S 980 SLI laptop.

The power distribution is likely to avoid someone plugging both 330w PSU's into the laptop, and then try to run it without water-cooling :)

4.4Ghz may be for 1 core, may be 30sec load speed then throttle down to less then 4ghz, we'll see. What really interests me most is how asus want to improve watercooling on this thing. Did anyone see notebookcheck review on GX700? There was a small single WC pipe on top of GPU die heatsink. That's it. That massive dock helped to reduce ONLY gpu temps by 10-15C tops. Sadly...

If anyone saw what a watercooled pc looks like on the web should understand that asus simply invested in marketing with GX700.

I understand the difference in dimensions between laptop and desktop but some serious redisign has to bemade by asus in order to cool all those components this time around.

Also, if there's no point in using this laptop without dock, there should be a switch to disable those NV gpus.

Cost? I guess close to 6k)) But interior looks better then G752, nevertheless!

I would guess the watercooling is the same design, since the machine looks just as thin.

    Well, there's a GX800 mouse :p

I HATE this kind of "stable".

Wait, you can't change the TDP on ANY HK or vendor specific? If by default the HK has locked TDP then it's not a K at all, and in no way replacement to the old XM/MX series. What's the point of playing with multipliers and voltages if you are limited to certain TDP? With overclocking you want more heat, whether or not you'll be able to handle it, is up to you and your machine.

Does it reach higher in terms of overclocking? To be honest I haven't dug deep in the BGA CPUs.

I was thinking something like two power ports in the dock and only one on the system (where the dock meets the system). This way you wont be able to use 2 PSUs undocked, since there's only one port and the adapter box is built into the dock, so you can't get this one out either, at least not without destroying it because it would most likely be part of the rest of the dock's inner workings - fan controller, pump controller and etc.

Looking at the CPU water block, and connections to the outside piping, it looks like all the water-cooling goes through the CPU, with the heatpipes connected between the CPU and the GPU's carrying the heat either through the air-cooling exhausts when off the water-cooler, and as a hybrid cooling when on the dock.

It's clever, and reduces the risk of running piping all over the place, as some I have seen, reducing leaking.

Asus already has excellent air-cooling for the GPU's, but borderline for really pushing CPU's.

With the same air-cooling + water cooling on the CPU, that explains how Asus can claim a 4.4ghz "stock" OC for the CPU. That is a feat unmatched so far from any other 6820HK reported OC on air.

If Asus could make a high pressure internal cooling system that would exchange heat through the GPU exhaust fans while off the dock.

Using a small internal reservoir(s) continually circulating through the CPU water-block through to the exhaust heat exchangers, I think Asus could do off the dock water assisted cooling.

But, that is exactly the kind of high benefit high risk system that could promote leaks - unless it's double hulled or isolated with some kind of water catch system - bag.

As is, the Asus water-block looks limited but effective enough. The low water leak risk method.

You can tune some settings, whether they actually have effect is another story :)

It's not a 95w desktop CPU, so it's not going to hold clocks over a limit, on all 4 cores for me it was 3.5ghz-3.6ghz, 24/7 running of CPU / GPU intensive batch jobs - 5950HQ 47w - GT80 SLI-263 - SLI 980m.

Although there are some benefits in some games, maybe more so with 1080 SLI of the future, the 980 SLI seems to be ok with BGA laptop CPU's - they stay busy and graphics scores / fps aren't affected.

The CPU scores do drop compared to desktop CPU's, but looking at only Graphics scores, there isn't a problem.

Yeah, I saw the GX800 mouse, and other things. We are getting TLA-like collisions in naming :)

Let's see how the new MSI GT83 SLI 980 performs, and if MSI finally allow more than 330w single PSU.

Let's see what Asus did with it before "junking" it.

Besides, the GX800VG is performing above the performance of other SLI 980, SLI 980m laptops while on the dock. So it's awesome :)

That's the thing, because before the 95W desktop CPUs, we had pretty well binned XM CPUs and not-so-well-binned, but still unlocked in every way MX CPUs (Haswell). Now we have, from what I red around here, not-so-well-binned (at all?) HK, which is also locked. Not good. That's why I said that it's not a K. Whether or not the BGA CPUs are enough for SLi setup, that's another story (obviously capable enough, but for how long*), but the K in the CPU's name is what gets me. It's not a proper overclocker, so not an enthusiast part, that's what I meant. Oh well, still entertaining machine for those that don't want to sweat too much on the tweaking, but want the performance and yes, I'm looking forward to what GT83 SLI has to offer.

*Example - M17x-R2, you have to have an XM at full tilt (90 or more Watts for the CPU alone) in order to be adequate enough for newer GPUs. Then again, the GX800 is a soldered system, so nothing would change in its config, so I guess it's OK.

its almost 0% chance these major OEM will adopt desktop cpu in a laptop like clevo, they wanna be market trend so they use design and looks to impress instead.

this laptop would be great if that 6820hk would not be so crappy binned and gpu is 1080m

18" 4k Screen resolution? So maybe a new version of alienware 18 or CLEVO laptop with 18" monitor is a possibility.

It's not yet known who makes the screen, but it's possible Asus owns / ordered / customized it for their own use, as noone else has mentioned this 18" 4k screen before now.

You do realize that they make an order to a display manufacturer, it's even mentioned in the article. Still, it's been a while since there were 120Hz panels, and they were TN.

Asus contracts out the specified display builds, and the display maker doesn't always make them available to other vendors.

It would be nice to have someone sporting an Asus GX800 providing useful Information first Hand. But personally I would go with the Phoenix 2.0 + Prema Bios. At least with the latter you have many Reviews and Information over here.

I only have interest in 1080SLI config (Max specs) .. Really leaning towards the GX800 because it looks phenomenal, love the mechanical keyboard, 18" screen and watercooling.. What's holding me back a lot is the fact that you pretty much need the dock at all times to squeeze out full potential.. The SKY 89E2 doesn't need a dock to unleash full potential, but it also doesn't look as good, is a 17" screen, and one less PCIe SSD. I have to wait a while to see users feedback before blowing that much $ on a new machine..

Another thing I am extremely curious about is if they would handle the new Titan (XP) GPU's in SLI as I don't imagine they'd be much different from the 1080's power consumption wise.. Truly that's what I'd be VERY interested in because I know that configuration would be able to handle ALL games fully maxed out in 4K at a minimum of 60FPS.. Only time will tell if that's possible. Would LOVE to see a Titan XP config in the GX800 or SKY 89E2. Maybe the next gen variants of those machines will offer that or HBM2? By then 120Hz 4K G-Sync will be out as well, hopefully in OLED. :D

Bottom line I need an absolute minimum of 60FPS in 4K with G-Sync and everything maxed out. Ideally on an OLED screen with at least 100Hz. When I see that; I'll blow $6,000.00 with a BIG smile on my face. This seems like a mid to late 2017 purchase. Anything less doesn't really make sense to me when taking value into consideration.

That really sucks.. But there has to be a way to get it to work.. I wouldn't mind buying a new SLI machine with a single 1080GPU, sell off said 1080 and manually install the Titan XP's in SLI.. As long as it works properly.... But I'm not willing to be the guinea pig LoL.. Let someone else lead, I'm happy following until it is proven to work.

If not, waiting for HBM2 is the only thing that makes sense if one desires a truly maxed out 4K gaming experience at a minimum of 60FPS in a laptop. I don't mind waiting for what makes most sense per dollar. We're heading in the right direction.

GX800 is trading punches with the SKY 89E2.. They made a BIG mistake using the 6820HK instead of a desktop CPU... I don't know what they were thinking there, especially considering the water-cooling aspect of their invention.?. They need to learn from each other and release one spectacular machine worthy of the price they are asking for them. They are not there yet, but they are not far away either. As much as I want to give them my $, it would be too premature. Don't feel like selling all my machines for something that isn't quite up to snuff.

I'd say if you want to spend that much money, buy a P870DM3 with prema bios. You'll find much more joy in it compared to the GX800.

    Meh.

While I am sure it has excellent performance, I don't find it aesthetically pleasing at all. It's actually pretty ugly IMHO.

I'll wait for the next GX800/900? .. That's the one I find most aesthetically pleasing, it's the only one that's a true 18", and water-cooled, with the most PCIe slots.. Just needs a desktop CPU, HBM2 SLI & 120Hz 4K with the ability to use it's full potential without the obligation to use the dock. Everything else is perfect for my taste.

Thanks for your input. Patience it is; until all the right pieces fall in the puzzle.

    Cheers.

They processors will never be able to hold a candle to actual desktop processors like the 6700k.
But end of the day it all depends on what you want to use the laptop for.

Same thing I'm using my 17R3 for. Gaming, Photo & Video editing.. Trying to add a perfect VR/4K gaming experience to the mix with a new purchase. Even if they don't end up adding a desktop CPU, I'd still go for the water cooling benefits & aesthetics. Love everything about it; especially the mechanical keyboard. Need to see one in person though. 1080SLI is not enough for flawless maxed out 4K gaming; only the new Titan XP's in SLI execute that to expected levels, or a wait for HBM2. It's not rocket science at this point.

You find that monstrosity the GX800 has to plug into, aesthetically pleasing?

From what I can see online (compared to everything else in its class) yes, I do.

But I have to see it in person to get a feel for it. Learned a long time ago through dating websites that almost any prospect can look good in a photo/video with makeup on LoL.

I'm not planning on moving it around often. Maybe twice to 3 times a year tops; so for me it is a real desktop replacement.

tbh i find the idea of water cooling pleasing, only to find that its from asus, they tend to do mxm in an irregular way and try to be thinner than usual hence might end up with one giant mobo piece, its a real shame, further more they dont exactly make the dis-assembly easy unlike the p870DM or gt83.

Considering both Clevo and MSI are fscking the P870DM and GT80/GT72 owners out of working MXM upgrade's, I think Asus is clearly the better company.

But, you already knew that, right? :D

After the royal screwing Clevo and MSI have laid down on their customers, it's time you updated your trolls, 'cause that **** don't fly no more. o_O

They can put a desktop GTX 1080 + 6950X in a 24inch all in one. A Titan X without the cooler could fit inside a 17.3" chassis with P570WM thickness perhaps ( Motherboard may have to change )

I have been wanting a water-cooled laptop for a few years now.. I even contacted the owner of Singularity Computers and was throwing money at him (begging him) to do a custom water-cooling job on my AW 18 with a custom paint job.. It would have been the very first laptop for him to do, but sadly he said that he is far too busy with custom desktop builds that he wasn't willing to take on the challenge. Broke my heart at the time, but am glad now because that 'investment' would have gone straight down the toilet.

Doing a water-cooled desktop build isn't completely written off (either with Titan XP's in SLI or wait for HBM2 to drop). Also what I've been reading about Intel's new CPU's is impressive enough to wait another 12 months or so. This time next year 4K gaming will be very mainstream & 120Hz 4K displays nothing new. Same goes for the new Polaris Controller faster PCIe SSD's.

It's more convenient to do VR gaming from a laptop though.

I'm 90% sure we won't have to worry about maxed out 4K gaming @ minimum 60FPS on laptops a year from today. Right now is not the time to buy. Whatever issues they run into with these new 1080SLI machines (and there will be a few) they will be able to fix with the next gen releases.

I was disappointed that even the new Titan XP couldn't handle a minimum 60FPS in all 4K games with maxed out settings. Kind of expected it to be able to do just that.

though u mentioned that, msi and clevo lasted few generation, asus u'd be forced to buy a new laptop, that in itself is already better than asus lol. im not denying fact that some asus laptop is awesome but holy fk they are hard to take apart, just like HP.

what u said further proven my points lol, tbh any laptop OEM will do what it takes to make money so at one point they will ditch us for the majority just how it is.

lets put it this way, clevo isnt on the list cause majority of people dont understand what hardware is good. put a graph of standard deviation there, most normal and average people are in the middle while the enthusiast are tend to be in very small number on either ends :). im fine being not top of the list knowing people who doesn't understand hardware likely flock together. wonder why there isnt 5 billion people smart like Einstein lol.

Ok Einstein, Clevo and MSI have cut off the one thing you thought great about them, upgradeability, killed it, and threw it in our faces.

You know Clevo and MSI are going to screw you over again if it makes them money, so why do business with them?

Asus hasn't done any of that, and has remained an honest company to work with.

They deserve your money, Clevo and MSI don't.

How can you recommend Clevo and MSI to people, besides the momentum from previous fantasy's made up in your head - those companies proved your fantasies wrong.

    Wake up.
