My Asus G51J came with 2x320gig 7200rpm drives. If i remember correctly it does not have an raid array. Is there any way to make it raid 0?

The chipset does not support RAID.

:) I've moved to the G73 now but I miss the G51. Hope yours is holding up! I'm sure it is...

I'm not sure you can do that to the system volume. Since I don't use windows I can't tell you for sure.. there's a guide here: How To Create Software Raid In Windows 7

thx. i'll check it out. Just a shame not to have raid 0 ^^ It's doing alright had to reinstall a couple times...windows 7 started freezing for no reason. Also i am starting to finally mod ym case....playing games at asus stock clocks were hitting 100C lol...now i over i play with 575 980 1450 and it doesn't break 95. Now i only made a big hole where the fan is so i still got to drill a 1/8th inch hole every centimeter and do the mini heatsinks too After that it'll run real cold. Plus i am going to upgrade my laptop cooler...the fans are too slow and weak. I am going to open it up and put in high performance fans.

In addition to the chipset the BIOS must also support RAID.

The BIOS would need to have an option to enable it, but then it just hands off to the option ROM for the ICH controller. You can always add an eSATA RAID expresscard if you want to run RAID on external drives, and they all pretty much support booting, without any need for explicit BIOS support.

For the freesing, it is a known driver issue. Uninstall creative sound software and Sound Audigy software/drivers to eliminate the random lock ups/freezing.

trust me i removed that ages ago....windows 7 just some how got currupted...no clue why...I even did system restores that didn't help. It was just a weird fluk...haven't had a problem since. I was thinking about doing a raid 0 through the express port. But i resided thats a bit more money than i want to spend ^^ I'll live with everything on my external. It has 14.5ms and 70-140MBps depending on the part of the platter used

EDIT: i also didn't have the razor mouse crap installed....it was free of those crappy software but thx for the reminder ^^

also i refuse to buy SSD...they are not reiable and die to fast. I will only buy a SLC one and those are liek 600 bucks so forget that ^^

I dunno... my X25-M G2 SSD has lived through 3 systems and it's in my G73 now. They're getting really cheap, and by the time the 3rd gen Intel and new Sandforce stuff comes out it'll be even cheaper. The only reason I can see to do RAID is if you have existing drives and want to squeeze out the very last ounce of performance. That's just my take tho... ;) :p

i don't have on me extra drives...though if i could get my hands on the 2 500 gigs back at home that would be cool...they are like 4 years old but they were really high end back than
