    Hi ,

I have been having too many random game lock ups.. i'm using catalyst 10.10, BIOS 211 and new vBIOS... i just don't know why its happening.. nver used to happen earlier... I have applied the MS hotfix for random windows 7 lock ups... Its been happening after i change to 10.10 from 10.8... even 10.10 beta caused it.. what is the issue?

Hmm, sounds like you should go back to 10.8? I've heard 10.9 and up run like crap.

Like Hellycry said all G73JH's are not created equally unfortunately it seems yours cannot handle downclocking of the vRam =(

What?!?!? What does downclocking of ram have even remotely anything to do with his game locking up? In 3D, while gaming, the memory doesn't downclock!

Powerplay is not fully fixed in the vBIOS v93, as in it is unstable to do major downclocking on some (most?) systems.

Chastity's vBIOS with the one lower powerstate does well enough, even tho it does cause screen flicker on most systems when it changes to that lower mode (you can tell when you unplug the power cord and it downclocks), but it seems to remain stable.

Hellcry's is just to aggressive for most systems.

HellCry's is fine if you are not completely lazy. When you are not doing 3D work, you just use PowerPlay to force battery mode. And when you want to do 3D work, change back to performance. It's that easy. Performance with the OverDrive overclocks, good to go with no flickering in either mode.

Pressing Ctrl Alt + P for my performance hotkey takes less than 1/2 a second. And my low clock is 100/150 @ .85v. So far no problems at all, works great, watching videos, etc, my idle temp is in the low 40s, 42-43C.

Sorry, that is NOT TRUE for all G73JH systems.

Hellcry's vBIOS won't run the lower power states on mine. It crashes.

Again, just because YOU don't have a problem does not mean someone else may not either. It is well known that Hellcry's is extremely agressive with the power saving modes, which is fine if you don't have an issue running them.

Please do not refer to the rest of us as "lazy" because you have not fully qualified the issues.

Shrug, oh well. Sorry to hear you can't get 100/150 to work for you.

It's not aggressive. It's STANDARD. 100/150 battery clocks are the STANDARD, DEFAULT clock setting for the HD5870M. I don't know why it's not working for some, every laptop setup is different. So I can't even begin to guess. Asus should be shipping every G73jh with these settings.

Oh, I agree that it should work. I do believe the Asus implementation of the 5870m is a flawed design, and those flaws keep it from reaching it's full potential.

Actually it kinda does and it depends on the game. World of Warcraft for instance on loading screens constantly changes from 2D to 3D mode wich could cause lockups.
