Today out of no where my G73JH started beeping. It's 5-6 loud beeps consecutively that happens randomly. I can't find any info on this anywhere. Temps are good and nothing has changed. Any help appreciated

Does it happen when you are typing? Beeping can imply a keyboard buffer being filled. It can also be caused by hardware issues.

It happens while it's sitting completely idle with nothing happening in the background. I checked eventvwr for anything abnormal and everything seems normal. I just got off the phone with ASUS about it and they had no idea. Keyboard buffer, can you explain a little more on that? Thanks for the quick reply too :D

The only thing that has changed recently is in December I upgraded to an OCZ Vertex 3 120GB and just yesterday I set up a XBOX 360 wireless windows controller. That's it. No problems with this laptop in the 2 years I've had it.

There is a keyboard controller chip on the motherboard that has a buffer. When that buffer gets filled (due to a keyboard repeat that is too fast for whatever reason), it will beep at you.

Keyboard buffer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It could be related to the xbox controller, since that is an input device.

What can I do to fix this? It's getting really annoying. It's just weird that it's happening just now. Could it possibly be my keyboard (Saitek II External Keyboard) or mouse (mouse that came with laptop) be going bad? This does happen when completely idle and not even touching the laptop.

I have to admit beeping, even the kind of keyboard beeps I am talking about, are super rare on modern systems and I am just throwing a guess out there. If you suspect your external keyboard or mouse, the only way to rule them out is to disconnect them and see if the beeping continues.

These are PC speaker beeps, right?

Yes it sounds like the PC Speaker but it's really hard to tell with this laptop. I'll try to judge if it's coming from the main speakers or the board speaker.

I don't think there is a board speaker, it would just go through the main speakers. I am just trying to confirm that it's that BOOOP sound that you get and not some kind of electronic squeal or beep-type sound. Some AC adapters also make beeps if they are failing. Not sure about the G73 one though.
