Is it possible for me to re-use my nvidia gtx 250m chip from my broken asus g51vx? It would cut the cost of a new laptop significantly.

Its more than a chip its an entire board specific to ASUS laptops thought it uses a semi standard connector. Its an MXM slot thats reversed, which ASUS uses in the G series.
I dont see how you plan to obtain another laptop that doesnt have a GPU. Only use it will be is a G51, etc with a bad video card that you buy used. You can't use it in any standard MXM laptop, can't buy a laptop that has integrated and then add it, sorry.
If the card is good, I among many others would be willing to buy it for retrofitting into a G50.
So yeah think about selling it. -
As ClutchX2 said, you can easily resell the card, or buy a g50 / g51 / g60 laptop and upgrade the card in it and resell the entire unit.
But no, it's not like it's an alienware/clevo card. Proprietary asus, and specific to only a few laptop models. -
Ahh thanks guys, yeah i'll just resell it

I believe the best use for a 260 gtx gpu would be to find a g50 that has the 9800 gts, and upgrade it
It has been done.
possibly a g70 also but i dont know if thats been done.
