I had my G73jh repasted when I bought it years ago by the retailer but it felt like it was time for another repasted as idle temps were getting high.

I reviewed the disassembly manual here
    Asus G73 Series Disassembly Guide

..and the following guide on YouTube here...

Asus G73JH disassembly repasting CPU & GPU 1080p - YouTube

..and felt like I could do it myself this time.

When I finally reassembled the system I found out the LCD screen wouldn't turn on. HDMI into my tv worked fine though so it was evident it wasn't a GPU issue. I monitored my temps and they were much better than before.

Not satisfied with having to use the TV as my sole monitor, I reopened up the system to make sure I hadn't overlooked anything which would prevent the LCD was from turning on. I disassembled it to the step before i would turn over the motherboard upside down to reveal the GPU and CPU. I couldn't see anything that I missed and decided to put it back together.

Upon starting it up a second time I find out the system won't even turn on at all now? So now I'm worried.

I'm going to open it up again but I wanted to get some ideas as to what's causing this issue now. Why won't it power on? What have I missed?

Please help!! I'm restricted to typing on my ipad now and need my laptop for work!!

Well, if the LCD is showing no power at all then it is likely that the LCD power cable is not/was not pushed all the way in (the LVDS cable going to the LCD, on the top right). I don't see how it could be anything else since, as you said, HDMI worked.

The most common cause of not turning on at all is the wifi antenna cables getting stuck under the reset button, did you check they are definitely out of the way?

As long as you are careful and gentle with all the cables while disassembling it is unlikely anything is permanently broken.. I'd take it apart a third time and check wifi cables/reset button, as well as LVDS cable. You can always power it on when partially disassembled to check if LCD is going/machine is turning on, though I like the excitement of testing if it goes right at the end!

Also check that you didn't disconnect then forget to reconnect the power to the motherboard.

When you say not turning on do you mean nothing happens at all, no spinning up of fans etc?

Thanks ill open it up again now. Looking at the biotech disassembly vid also (seems much better than the one I originally used).

And yes, pressing the power button does nothing at all. No lights, no fans. No response at all.

    Update:

I've determined it's the switchboard FPC ribbon that determines whether it turns on or not. If I connect it, the system doesn't boot.

Any idea what's going on here??

Ok I'm treating that ribbon like an appendix. System out back together and working without it connected.

That is quite strange. Is everything working without the switchboard cable connected? I don't know what the switchboard cable refers to!

As the pictures are a bit poor in the manual and video, you could check out the closeups on the following link to make sure you are connecting it correctly, just in case it's twisted the wrong way.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...um/527654-newbs-guide-repasting-your-g73.html

All the info and guides in that section are worth a look, anyone who simply uses the BTOtech video risks audio-plug destruction!

Seems very odd to me, really thought it'd be the wifi cables on the reset button. Was trying to find a picture of it, but can't locate in any of the guides. Hopefully a more knowledgeable person will be able to shed some light. At least it's back up and working :)
