Sorry, my bad, to be more specific I meant is it usually WYSIWYG or are there any warranties that cover dead pixels and such as you would have with a new laptop?

doubt they will be warranty on dead pixels.

Manufacturer Limited Warranty period (parts): 90 days
Manufacturer Limited Warranty period (labor): 90 days

and also 90 days on the parts, may cover it , but 90 days is pretty short :p

Things with 30, 60, or 90 day warranties usually break on the 31st, 61st, or 91st day.

OMG! NO! I would totally stay away from any recertified-refurbished Asus item, those product were sent back for a reason. So many of them have issues and have been F*ed up by the incompatence of Asus Rma -service people who have no clue what they are doing half the time, so if you bought one i would say there is a 87% chance you are gonna have an issue. This is just my opinion, im sure others will agree and disagree with me but whatever you get i do hope it works out for u.

    good luck

Not sure what you're talking about. the only ones that had mass issues, where the g73J and that was due to poor thermal paste applications. only issue I'm aware of for the sw version is a common problem with all Sandy bridge CPUs and down clocking sometimes which can be fixed with throttle stop. as for the op since this is a gimped version of the laptop you're probably better off getting a jh version the you should be quite a bit better.

LOL that is so true. Its called 'The Law of the Sod'

In regards to OP question its no different a gamble to buying a used laptop from ebay with only 90 days warranty left. 3 months is a good amount of time if you work out how much you are saving. I bought mine back in January it was out of the original warranty and out of the refurbed 30 day BB warranty. I risked it and its been tough as a rock the whole time, along with the amount of tweaking with it I am very pleased with its condition.

Its a gamble pretty much you either cough up the funds to get a new model with full warranty that could be DOA or spend half its warranty in RMA or risk it and fix it yourself if its out of warranty. Personally it is worth fixing it yourself if you have no knowledge you are in the same position us JH/JW owners were in to begin with its good to teach yourself how to repaste, replace etc because it will save you a lot of time should you need to do it in the future. I personally dont care for warranties they have caused me more trouble than good and I paid for it.

Most importantly dont buy that model for the poor performing GPU not the refurbishment.

"Not sure what you're talking about. the only ones that had mass issues, where the g73J and that was due to poor thermal paste applications"

I wasnt aware of any issues regarding poor paste application, I have a G73JH and my issues is/was the touchpad static problem, Asus denies it (but have been quietly replacing the touchpad with a new version) but the users have found a fix by removing the tape and glue around the metal touchpad base it caused static which made it erratic . other issues were fixed by users too, like the switching from battery to ac power issues.
but what really gets me is all the Asus rma stories, pic's and letters, its like they released this laptop and never showed the rma staff how to open, repair or replace its components. not to mention them forgeting to put screws back in place or put the network card back in and then there are all the case damages because they were never trained before hand how to disassemble it. not to mention the some of the tech just dont really give a hoot about it and so they are careless.

yes i still have the toucpad issue, because i missed some of the glue but I just dont feel like disassembling it again to fix their mistake, I will do it eventually just not right now. my mistake (besides speanding $2K on an Asus product) was spending another $100 for an extended warranty (which i will never use out of fear for damage)

I think mike was referring to the posts about DOAs/borked laptops from NewEgg.com, I think they got a shoddy batch from Asus, cause quite a few people were posting about it a few weeks back....
