Hey guys, yesterday I noticed my screen would freeze every ten minutes or so making me do a force shut down. I hadn't updated my gpu drivers in a year or so, so I got the latest off of amd's site, 11.6....but now my screen randomly flashes while playing games...are there better drivers, such as 11.5 or 11.5a

Oh, and I have an asus g73jh with a 5870 mobility radeon

what video drivers are you currently on?
Before you update driver I would ask you to get FPS (with fraps as usual if possible) in some of your game... I woud like to see your result with old drivers first and newer driver now...

    Anyway:

    have you updated the vBios?
People right there usually suggest to go with the latest release, while I disagree, I personally saw a continus loss of frame rate with release after the 10.4 one...

But again, it may be MY g73 that has some problem...

^^ You want to make sure you have that VBIOS. Otherwise go onto Chastity's:

G73 Series Driver and Application Reference

Update to the latest V0.93. Use the modded version is recommended.

Yup get that VBIOS updated and then reinstall the latest drivers after updating it and that will sort your problems.

Up top ^^ USER CP then left hand toolbar Edit Signature.

You can copy in a sig pic or type up your own and edit it.

I cant really advise you on that as I stay away from Flashing personally but I hear the safest way is to use a USB flash drive. The files you need to put on it are:

You can also use the built in ASUS Winflash utility but this has a higher failure rate if something goes pear shaped. I bricked a laptop once and so I have a flash phobia.
