Hey guys, yesterday I noticed my screen would freeze every ten minutes or so making me do a force shut down. I hadn't updated my gpu drivers in a year or so, so I got the latest off of amd's site, 11.6....but now my screen randomly flashes while playing games...are there better drivers, such as 11.5 or 11.5a
Oh, and I have an asus g73jh with a 5870 mobility radeon

And, right after I posted this...my screen froze again..and is currently lagging...:|
-
what video drivers are you currently on?
Before you update driver I would ask you to get FPS (with fraps as usual if possible) in some of your game... I woud like to see your result with old drivers first and newer driver now...
Anyway:
have you updated the vBios?
People right there usually suggest to go with the latest release, while I disagree, I personally saw a continus loss of frame rate with release after the 10.4 one...
But again, it may be MY g73 that has some problem... -
I had 10.5, then got 11.6 yesterday still had the problem, decided to go to 11.5a a minute ago..sorry
and I updated the vBios when I got the laptop but I havent since then -
^^ You want to make sure you have that VBIOS. Otherwise go onto Chastity's:
G73 Series Driver and Application Reference
Update to the latest V0.93. Use the modded version is recommended. -
side note, how do I change my forum signature? -
Up top ^^ USER CP then left hand toolbar Edit Signature.
You can copy in a sig pic or type up your own and edit it. -
Before I do anything stupid, I dl'ed the .rar for the vBios...but how do I flash it? Just run the exe?

Welp, I just GSODed...so guess im going to have to update:/

-
Hey, so its been a couple of hours since i updated things, and since then i haven't had any GSODs or freezes...so yeah this definitely solves the problem
-
glad you got it sorted!
-
do you see the same performance in games with the new drivers?
