I just got my ASUS G53SW-XN1 from NewEgg. Everything seemed perfect, until I turned it on and noticed a lot of thin red lines going across the screen, from top to bottom. They're there even when the computer is off. I didn't do anything with the laptop besides charging it and turning it on. I really don't want to RMA, what should I do? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Here's a picture of the problem:

Did the box look damaged in anyway? That definitely doesnt look software related.

You shouldnt have to RMA to Asus, my guess is that since it came that way, Newegg should be able to exchange it out for you for a brand new one.

The box didn't look damaged at all actually, but you never know. Yeah I guessed I'd have to RMA, damn...
I've never delt with RMAs before, so do you think I should call NewEgg?, or call ASUS?, or email them?

Is it on the outside or inside the screen? Looks like paint or something dripped down the screen. Did you try wiping it with a cloth?

I did, nothing happened, even try applying some pressure, with no results

wow that is pretty bad. that right there is likely going to require a panel replacement especially if its visible with the machine powered off.

best to get on them right away and inform them of a defective unit shipped and shoot for replacement. panels are too flimsy to apply scrubbing pressure if somethings on the lcd itself and stuck real good. and most chemical agents are no go, and thats assuming it was on the outside layer of the panel.

did yours ship with the fibrous clothlike material sheet between lcd and keyboard, or the plastic taped on with the asus blah blah stuff printed on part of it, or nothing at all between lcd and keyboard when opened.

should have been one of the first two if it was a new unit.

I contacted them for an RMA and apparently they can take 48 hours to respond so I'll be getting their answer tonight hopefully. There was nothing in between the LCD and keyboard, well there was a very small piece of plastic-ish thing that just said something about the specs

Looks like a bad panel actually, might have been damaged during transport. Contacting newegg was the way to go, usually they don't fuss and replace the product.
