    Am I screwed? Portions of the key on the bottom are faded away, I've been trying a variety of combinations because its only a few letters that aren't clear but all of them are invalid!!!!

    Can I somehow find the key in the Windows.old installation?

    Use a utility like ABR (activation backup & restore) to get the license info from your existing install. My COA is totally faded too. ;)

    Worst case, you could buy the system restore DVDs from the asus store, the restore should put in the factory key automatically, then you could use the key extractor to do a clean install...

    Or use the syst recovery partition that is on the HDD (assuming you didn't blow it away)
