Ok, I did a gpu and cpu repaste on my G73JH. The gpu temps dropped very nicely. Idle went from around 61 to 54. So, that was worth it. The cpu on the other hand. Well, I am idling at between 60-80 it goes up and down for no apparent reason. I guess the question is this. The die on the cpu is rectangular, do you still just put one blob in the middle of the cpu? Two small ones? The ICD7 is pretty thick. Do I need to let it sit overnight and see what happens? I don't mind going back in again and doing the cpu over. I don't think I will touch the gpu though. So, what is the proper way to pasted the cpu?

    Hi,

See most put a blob dead centre and it is fine but I dont like it I dont get as good temps I have found although it should covers the cores primarily, personally as I have an XM I put a small line across the middle horizontally not end to end just like the length of 3 blobs side by side to make sure it covers the entire chip.

If you have the 720QM it should not be hitting 80oC at all with ICD on the chip mine never went over 70oC so I would recommend going back and put a small line across the middle and making sure the screws are nice and firm not tight just to the point that they are fully in. Also if you have not done so clean out the fans if you have some tape whip the fans off as I found chunks of dust clogged in the radiator where you cant get to.

Thanks Dallers, I found the problem. I did not get the fan connector pushed all the way in! With the fan working the cpu is idles just below 50. I did repaste the cpu and put a line down the middle of rectangle so to speak. I am happy with the temps, but now when start up cod w@w I get like 10 fps. LOL I must have gooded something up on the software. It is like the video card does not work. It runs about 45 while it is running. Ok, I got good temps. Now to figure out what I did wrong........ grrr.

I rebooted and now the video card is working. Everything turned all the way up. I ran around in the foliage for 5 minutes (that seems to be pretty tough on the graphics card), a pretty steady 91 fps, cpu temps went to a high of 70, and the gpu went to a high of 71! Yes!! I think I finally go it! Good temps and performance.
