SO, I really like my G51J and the speed / features (minus the heat, but what can you do with the power :) ) - I have 2 3D TV's and I cant use the 3D TVplay since Nvidia seems to have forgotten this laptop and one of their first 3D supported notebooks.

So, can I replace the 260m with any of these :

    GeForce GTX 485M
    GeForce GTX 480M
    GeForce GTX 470M
    GeForce GTX 460M
    GeForce GTX 560M
    GeForce GT 555M
    GeForce GT 550M
    GeForce GT 540M
    GeForce GTS 360M
    GeForce GTS 350M
    GeForce GT 435M
    GeForce GT 425M
    GeForce GT 335M

Thanks for any help .. My last option would be a new PC - Id like to avoid that if I could for now.

    Thanks!

The only card that would work is the 360m and you'd need an Asus 360m since the G51 uses a reverse MXM connector,

for heat issues check my sig out and yes tijo is right only a 260 or 360 will work. the 260 is technically faster but i wont if it is after you overclock the 360m...i think the 360m overclocks higher. Also the 360 uses less power so your heat problems will go down

Excellent news - Im ok with the 360m over my 260m since I really want the 3DTV Play to work - Im alittle upset that Asus and Nvidia didnt work to add the support to the 260m since this is a 3D laptop... At least a 360m isnt too expensive to "upgrade" to (Upgrade being a relative term here...)

I haven't seen anyone upgrade a J to the 360M from the Jx. Keep in mind it is entirely possible that your HDMI port will not work if you swap the card out, since that has happened with other gpu upgrades. The systems are so similar that it may not happen, but it is a consideration.

BTW here's the link for anyone interested in the full 3DTV compatibility list: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-system-requirements.html

What do you plan on playing in 3D? Just Movies? Games?

I have an ASUS G60JX. I'm not too sure the GTS 360m could handle playing games in 3D too well. It isn't that powerful of a card. Especially for 150 dollars. And How are your temps on your GTX 260? My GTS 360m goes up to 91C depending on what I'm doing (Like playing Civ 5).

However I did do some playing around and noticed that by removing the back panel and playing without the panel on caused my temps max temps to on my Intel i5 from 72C to 63C. Max temps on NVIDIA GTS 360m dropped from 91C to 85C (The fan speeds increase once at 85C and once at 91C) and the Hard drive dropped from 42C to 36C. I'm considering getting out a drill and drilling an obnoxious amount of holes into the back of it.

These J series laptops get obnoxiously hot.

Yeah, it does get hot as, forgive the pun - hell... My GTX260m plays alot of games I want to in 3D - Since I can overclock the 360, Im hoping it works ...

I admit the HDMI is a concern to me - Luckily the company I bought from has a 30 day policy and they told me I could return it if I needed to, So Im going to try it.... ll post back after I give it a shot.
