I've just bought a G73SW two days ago. It's a great laptop besides the screen. The viewing angle is horrible (having a single colour page open in Photoshop will make the top appear darker than the bottom (as if it was a gradient rather than simple colour). Additionally blacks are more of a medium grey (making it really hard to play darker games).

The hardware ID of my screen is the following: SEC554B (I couldn't find what model/company that is here on the forums).

I'm looking at replacing it with another 1600x900 screen (or 1920x1080) if those are compatible with my Laptop (Nvidia 460M if that matters).

Reading through the Hannstar vs. AUO screen I couldn't really tell which ones I should get (I read that the Hannstar ones are generally better for 1600x900 but noone posted the exact IDs).

Can someone post the IDs/Model Type of the good Hannstar screens (or other screens that you think are a good replacement)?
Oh and could someone tell me what company my screen is (SEC655B)

    Thanks in advance! :p

I've used the AUO, Hannstar and CMO panel on my G73s, and so far I think my favourite has been the CMO. N173HGE-L21 replacement Laptop LCD Screen from $99.99 Brand-new screens (never used).

It has minimal screen bleed, decent viewing angles, and looks nice all around. It is a bit grainy when viewed up close, almost like the pixels are too prominent, but you won't notice this whilst gaming or watching video. This is a 1080p panel, so it would be a significant upgrade from your 1600x900.

I have the CMO both Matt and glossy. The problem I have is it seems the make these screens in a dirty factory. Both screens have a speck of dirt or 2 embedded in the screen.

Mine doesn't have that, but my AUO did. Annoying, isn't it. :(

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll be having a lookout for buying the N1743 screen. Upgrading to 1920x1080 shouldn't cause compatibility issues I assume?

Nope as long as you get a screen that is compatable 1080P is fine.

Definetely choose to upgrade to the 1080P spec for the extra price. Even if you intend to game at 900P you have the maximum option available and the difference is substantial, I wont go back to 900P now after seeing 1080P in all its glory.

My old Dell had 1920x1200 and I really loved having that much space. I think I'll go for a 1080p replacement screen :D
    Thanks for the help guys!

For some reason the CMO doesn't support 900p. I haven't been able to select it in Windows 7 or for games.

@Tzz2006: I'm not sure what the difference is, but the G73sw's come with the L21. I'd just get that.
