Hey guys...I've been shopping around for a high-end gaming laptop, and being my usually nitpicky self about it. Aside from being slightly larger than what I initially wanted, the G73jh has piqued my interested. But, being that I'm an adult and work in the IT industry, I would feel a bit silly bringing around a laptop that says "Republic of Gamers" right on top of it. I do play games, sure, but I'm just not interested in announcing it.

Anyway, for G73jh owners, is this text etched into the lid material? The Asus logo and design is fine, but do you see any way that the actual words "Republic of Gamers" can be removed or covered? Thanks in advance.

    Etched? It's ENGRAVED! :)

    It really doesn't stand out.

I'm 46 with a software company...I have no problem plopping this machine down on a conference room table in front of a room full of clients.

I demand certain spec'd hardware....if that hardware happens to fall in the gaming class, then so be it.

It's the business laptops used by the suits that are a joke ;)

The ASUS is shiny silver, the ROG logo is dull etching. It's not noticeable at all in my opinion. I think overall the laptop looks alot less "gamey" than than most, definitely less so than my old XPS dell, which I wouldn't want to take public! You'd expect people in the IT industry to have a powerful laptop.

Not sure what you could use to cover it, although the Asus decal to the right of the touchpad is big enough, so if you carefully remove that and glues it on top that'd do the job! It has system specs on it, plus picture of cooling system, 5" tilt, and keyboard.

One other thing, the fact that the laptop is near silent (an doesn't get hot at all) is a big factor for me. You don't want it constantly spinning up and down with fan noise during a meeting.

the etching is not noticeable, you won't feel embarrassed by a flashy gaming computer in the least.

◄-- See my avatar? That's what it looks like up close.

Tape? Sticker? Dremel? Okay, forget that last one. LOL

It's really not that bad. It'll show your coworkers that you make powerful decisions. :)

It's there but subtle, so you won't notice unless you look for it.

A co-worker described it best, "The laptop looks like a Mac, if Macs were all black and ill-tempered." :D

Actually, I find people at work gazing at it quite often. For one, it's got a huge screen. Most common folk don't think of 17.3" for laptops. The rubberized matte finish keeps it from being a fingerprint magnet, and doesn't highlight the engravings. After all, this IS a STEALTH laptop, unlike say, the Lamborghini Editions, which only should be used at work by rich people. :)

I keep the backlit keys on a low setting, enough for me to use, and subtly highlights its appearance. Someone today asked if I was going to get the G73JW and offered to buy my A1 for $1500. :D
